About the Canaan Dog
The Canaan Dog, also known as the Kelev K'naani, was originally created in Israel and used as both a herding dog and guard dog.
Today, this dog is used as both a companion dog guard dog.
The Canaan and Intelligence
Canaan Dogs are very protective dogs of their family and territory. They tend to be great watch dogs because of their natural protective instinct over those that they love. They are very intelligent dogs who learn quickly. They are great herding dogs who take their jobs very seriously. They tend to make sure that none of their flock doesn't make it from one place to another. These dogs should be socialized early though just to avoid overly aggressive behavior as they age.
Canaan Characteristics
The Canaan Dog has a wedge-shaped skull, a muzzle that is longer than they skull is wide, dark almond-shaped eyes and low set ears with a round tip. Their nose is made of a dark pigment with wide open nostrils. They have a well arched neck, broad chest, and a tail which tapers to the end. When alert, the tail is carried over th e back. Thei legs are straight and muscular with small, cat-like feet and thick, rough toe pads. They have a double coat which consists of a rough outer coat and a short undercoat. They have a bushy tail which make the point appear more defined. The most common coloring is a main shade from black to brown with either a white mask with/without patches.
