The question is often asked, “How do I know if my dog has worms?” There are a number of ways to identify if a dog has worms. The best way to tell is to take a sample of your dog's stool to the veterinarians. There, they can test for a number of parasites and get a bigger picture of your dog's health. It is difficult for the common pet owner to diagnose worms in their dogs for several reasons. Heartworm is found by doing blood tests, X-rays and other clinical diagnostics. Hookworms and Whipworms can only be seen from a microscope. Roundworm and tapeworm are visible to a human eye, but are seldom passed making it difficult to spot.
