Height: Male: Male: 20-21 inches tall, Females: 18-19 inches tall
Weight: Male: 50-60 lb., Female: 40-50 lb.
Color: Black and liver with white markings; blue or liver roan; tricolor (black, white & liver or liver, white & tan)
Temperment: Springer Spaniels are friendly, eager to please, attentive, and quick learning dogs.
Origins: The founder of all English spaniels, it was considered the ideal companion hunter.


About the English Springer Spaniel

The English Springer Spaniel, also called the Springer, was originally created in Great Britain to be used as a hunting dog.

Today, this dog is used as both a companion and hunting dog.

The English Springer Spaniel Temperment and Intelligence

Springer Spaniels are very friendly and affectionate dogs who love to play with their family members. They the life of the party and love to be in the company of humans. These dogs are very energetic and love to please their owners. Though they are very intelligent, they tend to get bored easily and can become destructive. They are very good with children and other animals. Like human children, these dogs need a firm hand while they mature because they like to test their boundaries.

English Springer Spaniel Characteristics

The Springer has skull that is flat on top and round at the sides. They have oval shaped eyes are set far apart, ears that are long and wide, and a square shaped upper lip that covers the lower jaw. When in motion, the tail is carried slightly raised above the back. The have strong legs and compact feet with well arched toes. This breed has a double coat. The outer coat is wavy and long while the undercoat is short and dense. There is feathering of the coat on the ears, chest, legs and belly. The most common colors for this breed are black or liver with white markings, blue or liver roan, or tricolor.

English Springer Spaniel Health Concerns

This breed is prone to dysplasia.

Choosing a English Springer Spaniel

The English Springer Spaniel needs a sufficient amount of exercise to be completely happy. They can do well in either an apartment or a home with a yard.
