Standard Redbone Coonhound Characteristics
About the Redbone Coonhound
The Redbone Coonhound was created in United States to hunt for game in the trees.
Today, this Coonhound is used mainly as a companion dog.
Redbone Coonhound's are very friendly and gentle dogs. They love people and are good with children. They love to be in the company of their family and don't like to be left alone outside. They are very intelligent and learn quickly. Their keen sense of smell tends to sidetrack their attention so training should occur as early as possible. Because of their noses, these dogs should not be walked off leash either.
The skull of this dog is flat with a square muzzle, large nose with open nostrils and tight-lipped mouth. Their round eyes are various shades of brown with very long, low set ears. They have a broad chest, thin but muscular bodyline and thick, medium length tail. Their thin legs sit atop their small, compact feet with well-padded toes. They have a short coat, which comes in various shades of red though a small amount of white is sometimes present.
This extremely healthy breed has no known health problems.
Redbone Coonhound's can survive in either an apartment or home though they do need a good deal of daily exercise. They can play in any environment so weather is not of importance with this breed.
