About the Siberian Husky

The Siberian Husky, also known as the Arctic Husky, was originally used as a sled dog in its native Siberia to pull small loads.

Today, this Husky is used as both a companion dog and competitive sled racing dog.

Siberian Husky’s are very active dogs who love to vocalize their feelings. They are very well tempered and love to be around people. This can become a problem with some owners though because by nature, this independent dog is not as loyal to their owner as other breeds. These dogs are very clever and are similar to Houdini in their ability to escape from yards and kennels. Training with these dogs takes a lot of patience they tend to obey only when they feel it is important. They have a lot of energy so they make great running partners. If they are let alone without interaction for long periods of time though they can become destructive.

The Siberian Husky has a medium sized skull, brown, blue, or parti-colored almond shaped eyes, close fitting triangular shaped eyes, and a small nose which can be either black, liver or flesh colored. Their tail is very bushy and curves itself over the back of the dog. They have very powerful legs which are small and straight in appearance. They have oval shaped, compact feet with large toe pads. Their double coat protects them from both the heat and cold of the world. It is thick and fuzzy in appearance but is kept short. The colors of these dogs vary but range between black to white with a multiple array of different markings.

This breed is prone to dysplasia and eye problems.

Siberian Husky’s do best in a home with a very active owner and a yard of some sort. When they are in the yard however, they do need to be watched closely.
