Danger for Dogs in the Snow
“Oh weather outside is frightening, but the fire is so delightful, and since we’ve no place to go, Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!” These famous words come to life every winter in many places throughout the world. It seems with the snow that both humans and dogs come alive to enjoy the outdoors. When the weather is cold, most dogs seem to have an endless amount of energy. As cute as it is to see big pawed dogs run around like little puppies, they need to be watched carefully for signs of dehydration. According to an article in About.com, “snow poisoning is a recent term for a dog who is essentially dying of thirst, surrounded by snow.” Snow is frozen water yet it has very little amount of actual water in it. So, the next time that you are out in the snow playing with your dog, make sure that you have some real water handy for them to drink when they need it.
