High Gas Prices Drive Up Euthanizations
Lauren writes in from AM New York to share an article concerning the efforts of a NYC rescue program being cut back because of increasing gas costs. With costs up over 30% since this time last year, “[the] group said it might be forced to scale back the program because of budget constraints. That means fewer animals will get a second leash on life.” 30% doesn’t sound like much but with over 160 trips from the shelter to foster homes each month, the annual budget of $15,000 for fuel is running out. “I say it has increased by at least $40 (a tank) since I first started,” said Ruth Martinez, one of the three van drivers.
