I melted the carob using a double broiler and added water-I continued to stir until it was a smooth consistancy-know my problem was once i put it into an icing bag the carob would almost instantly harden in the tip-any suggestions on how to "drizzle"?

Paste food coloring is safe to use in small quantities, just not liquid food coloring. Wiltons paste colors are nice because you do not need much to get a rich color. Just dip a toothpick in to the color and then swirl the colored toothpick into your mixture - shouldn't need more than 1 or two toothpicks to get your desired color.

I make homemade dog treats all of the time.
Carob needs to be tempered like chocolate. To melt it you put it in the microwave for no more than 15 seconds at a time. Melt, mix, melt, mix, melt, etc. until it is completely melted. You can then pour it into an icing bag for easy decorating.
Yogurt drops are full of sugar. They melt easier and can be colored with oil based food coloring used to color chocolate.

To help Carob Chips to melt faster, use Paramount Crystals. Not sure how much to use, I guess it is according to how much carob you need. I found a great place on the web where you can just about get anything you want for treats. It's called Barry Farm.

I've also tried to melt carob chips for drizzling & dipping dog biscuits. The resulting product wasn't very pretty, and left me a little dismayed. However, the second time I attempted it, I put several chunks of white chocolate in with the carob chips, and mixed them together. It turned out wonderfully, and looked like milk chocolate, and didn't taste too bad if I say so myself.

Just made the Peanut Butter Cookies- if you decide to use crunchy butter, don't use the 'Extra Crunchy' variety, all the nuts make it hard to roll out the dough- manageable the first time, but on second rolling the dough won't want to stay together. I ended up adding the 'too dry' stuff to a double batch (one Extra Crunchy, one Smooth) and it worked out great. Haven't tried the carob icing yet. Will re-post if I have any luck.
