Question Comment 1: Menu Foods transfered some of the tainted wheat gluten to their Canadian facility and has issued yet another recall.

Menu Foods has identified a single interplant transfer of the ChemNutra supplied wheat gluten, shipped from Menu Foods’ plant in Emporia, Kansas, to its plant in Streetsville, Ontario. This wheat gluten was subsequently used in the production of pet food in December, 2006 and January, 2007, which is being recalled by Menu Foods.

This may explain the melamine found in Nutro’s cans in California. Thank goodness for pet parents who care. You were right to suspect all Menu Foods products.

The revised recall includes cat food brands from Nutro, Publix, America’s Choice, Pet Pride, Winn Dixie and more.

List of All Pet Foods Recalled

Comment 2: Does anyone have a list of ALL the pet food (wet, kibble, and treats) that have been recalled? I looked at the FDA's website tonight, but it was last updated on 4/7. Is this the most current list, or is there another one out there?

This is the first laboratory-confirmed case of a non-recalled product containing melanine. One family confirms that the FDA is investigating these additional products.

NUTRA MAX CAT GOURMET CLASSICS: The following three 3-ounce varieties tested positive for melamine by UC Davis:

    * Chicken Cacciatore, UPC 79105352055
    * California Chicken Supreme, UPC 79105300117
    * Lamb & Turkey Cutlets, UPC 79105300148

The test was privately requested by a California family that lost their cat.

Comment 3: Today I went to my regular pet supply warehouse (locally owned and operated) to exchange some cans of Evo cat food, my MCs won't eat for some I know they like. (They're sooo particular, these cats! :-) They used to like it, but now they prefer some of the Wellness and Evanger flavors.) They don't even like Merrick's Turduckan!

I was also there last week getting more of the Evo dry food for the Newfs. (I also switched their Evo canned food  to the 95% Beef from the chicken and turkey, and they really like it!)

This last month it's been very interesting to observe other people shopping for their pets' foods. Nearly everyone at Pet Pals in Soquel, is selecting the better (best?) foods, and I've watched people poring over labels checking and often opting for higher priced foods.

Today I talked with a woman who'd bought Newman's Own Organic kibble for her dogs. Someone else had selected Natural Balance, and someone else Wysong.

I know, from overhearing conversations, that many of these people had changed from Eukanuba , Science Diet, or Iams to these new foods. Some people discussed amongst themselves how much time they'd spent on the internet doing research.

The whole recall thing has really made an impact on what people are buying! Oh, and if you're wondering: yes, there is a dog toy stuffed in the couch in the third pic. Zoey will do that when she wants to play and we won't take the hint

List of Dog Food Brands Recalled by Sunshine Mills

Comment 4:Sunshine Mills, Inc. ("Sunshine"), a branded and private-label pet food manufacturer based in Red Bay, Alabama, is voluntarily recalling a portion of its branded dog biscuits made at its Red Bay, Alabama biscuit plant during part of March 2007. These brands include: Nurture Chicken & Rice, Nurture Lamb & Rice, Pet Life Large, Pet Life Extra Large, Pet Life Large Variety, Pet Life Large Peanut Butter, Lassie Lamb and Rice, and Pet Life People Pleasers Dog Treats.
