no joke. I want a St Bernard, but have major allergies, I found out that there is a  Saint Bernard/poodle breed
. There seems to be little info anywhere, and I would appreciate some help.

I'm sorry Amy, but if you look into the Saint Berdoodle as a Breed you'll find that they look nothing like a Saint Bernard other than size and maybe build.  Also, just because a dog is mixed with a poodle doesn't mean that it won't trigger allergies.  I don't want to seem mean or rude or anything, but I don't think that this mix breed is the answer you're looking for.

If poodles are hypo-allergenic and that is what you are looking for, why not just get a standard poodle?
That way you know what you are getting as the mixes may have the qualities of either breed indescriminate ly.

Hi,

How bad are your allergies. Have you considered shots from your allergist? It may take some time to build a tolerance but that is probably your best chance of a St Bernard.

Check out this link on Hypoallergic Dog Breeds.

http://www.allergyescape.com/hypoallergenic-dog.html

It may provide some information to help in your search. I skimmed it, it seems to provide some good info.

Hey! Just wanted to add this. If you have your heart set on a Saint, this probably wont' be satisfactory to you. Have you seen pics of Saint Berdoodles?

My daughter has allergies pretty bad.   I have a Giant Schnauzer and she has no problems with her.

this may be a dumb question, be do giant schnauzers have to be groomed? also, are they as big (or nearly as big) as Saint Bernards? Thanks.

Hi Amy,
I have suffered from SEVERE allergies my entire life. I have had allergy attacks that have landed me in the ER because of throat swelling. I tried allergy shots, claritin, claritin D, allegra, allegra D, just about everything. My biggest allery is cat and dog hair. I now have 2 cats, 1 long hair 1 short hair, and had an Aussie that passed in Jan. My mom also has a lab/husky mix that I play with whenever I can. My lifesaver was  Zyrtec. Give it about one week to kick in, and it works miracles. No nasty side effects like nausea, or fatique. Zyrtec is amazing!!!! I can be around my babies and not have to worry about not being able to breathe. Seriously, if you don't want to compromise on the kind of pet you want, at least give Zyrtec a try, it worked for me, and NOTHING else did! Good luck!
True love is being gone all day, and coming home to a dog who licks your face.

Zyrtec is amazing!! I would definately give it a try if you haven't already. I don't have pet allergies, but I'm miserable in the spring and fall. Zyrtec works!
