: The Furminator Kicks Butt!
: Yaz July 08, 2006, 06:31:02 PM
So the furminator I ordered off of Ebay finally arrived today and I felt like a kid at Christmas. We have been drowning in Gershwin's fur for a while now - it seems like he is losing his puppy coat at the same time he is losing his winter coat. When he gets up from lying down you can not see the floor from the fur covering it. I have been hoping that the furminator is as good as people say it is.

And the verdict? Five stars! I spent about 1/2 hour furminating Gershwin (see pics below) and could not believe he had that much fur left to come off, considering I was brushing him daily for the past month. My one session with the furminator got off more fur than the past thirty sessions with the stripping blade and other brush did! I took a picture of him after furminating and I don't know if you can see how slick his coat looks - it was looking very molty and patchy before, but now it looks like it did this past winter.

Holy moly, Batman!  $50!!! I keep reading all the posts of how awesome they are but even if I get one, I'll still have to figure out how to tie Carter down to brush him.  Hmmmmmm, this will take some thinking.

Gershwin looks AWESOME in his slick summer coat!

Take a peek at
www.furminator .com

It is an amazing tool!  Do a search for dealers and you can get them much cheaper than the price listed!

There is also a brush that you can get at Bed Bath and Beyond, its called the Shed Ender...it works exactly the same as the furminator, and its 9.99USD :)

Liz, I have 2 shed-enders.. They work but they are so small and they don't come in bigger sizes.. So takes forever to brush out Bubba. That's why we got 2 so hubby and I can both brush him at the same time. Or I'd be sitting there all day by myself. LOL

I just got a Saint Bernard today (5yo F) and this sounds like a great tool! What size did you use and do you think that is the best size to have?

Thanks! :)

Gershwin looks absolutely gorgeous with or without the Furminator!  What a handsome fella!  We are also huge fans of the furminator.  With our 3 Newfies we would just be loaded with fur floor to ceiling daily without it!  It was a great investment for us.

Keep on posting those great pics.

It looks like it may be hard on the undercoat. What is the difference between it and the rake?

The teeth are much closer together. I believe the "rake" part of the furminator is just like a 10 blade just larger.

I know - I can't keep up with the Pom's coats.  I don't know how you guys with the Hairy Big Paws can do it. :)  I am going to get it for the POms for sure.

Just got my furminator today and could hardly wait to try it on my Newies.(I have 3). You are so correct when you said it looks like a big flea comb.I must be doing something wrong because I was not that impressed.Got some dead fur but not what I expected. Will have to wait until next year and see how things go when they all start to lose their winter coats.

So is this just used when the dog blows its coat.  I have only used the brush and comb pictured here to groom Lukka.
Is the Furminator going to cut her fur,,,why the blade?  I don't want her coat to be reduced in length only amount of shedded fur.  Confused

The furminator mainly gets out the dead undercoat.  We just got one and it works well on both our newf and the aussie.  It's not really a blade it just has a lot of teeth to get into the under coat and pull out the dead hair.  It's not going to make the coat any shorter it'll just remove what sheds.  It'll make the biggest difference when they are blowing coat but it pulls out all the built up dead hair throughout the year as well.

I just got one last week. I spend almost an hour Furminating my Pyr. She is shedding her puppy coat right now. Oh boy, I got a grocery bag full of hair out of her.
What a great tool! Absolutly worth the money!!!

Shoot I keep forgetting about this! I always intend to pick one up, but always forget when I'm at the store.  Right now, my "furminator" is the couch, the car, my favorits sweatshirts, my bed, the carpet.... LOL

OMG I got one for Christmas and it is truly amazing!  I took so much fur off one of our cats that he looks like he lost about 5lbs (also he has a bit of a thin spot now, so I have to lay off)!  It's also great on Binky and the dogs.  Love it!
