: What do you use to bathe the babies?
: cricket36580 July 18, 2006, 01:59:37 PM
I'm curious.  Somewhere else someone said they were using Murphy's Oil Soap.  I'm thinking that would be a little like turpentine.... I'm gonna have to research that.  Anyway, I use baby shampoo or homemade dog soap.  What about you?

Don't know the name of it, but it's a dog shampoo sold at Wal-Mart. Not Ol' Roy!

I use some flea and tick stuff just because it makes me feel better about them being protected in 3 ways.

EQyss brand Micro Tek pet shampoo.  Works wonders for Ladybug's sensitive skin.  They both have beautiful shiny coats.

Currently I'm using an oatmeal shampoo for Willow and a non-shedding shampoo for Tater that I bought @ petsmart, but I'm going to change to a shampoo that Pet Food Express uses in there self-service dog washing area. It's all natural and glycerine based, but for the life of me I can't remember the name. As soon as I get the name of the shampoo I'll let you guys know. LOL

Right now we are using a dog shampoo/conditioner 2-in-1 combo. In the past we have used special shampoo from the vet and we have also used baby shampoo

I use Mane & Tail 99% of the time... it's fairly gentle, not overly perfumed and doesn't seem to strip the oil out of their coats too much. Chance and Feste's coats always look good and are soft.
Because of Puck's skin, I have to use sebalyte (sp?)on him every so often.

We are also using Earthbath - Light Color Coat Brightener Shampoo on Cirra.  We have also used Wysong Soothing Relief frangance free shsmpoo which seems to effective in eliminating odors.  We always dilute the shampoo which makes it easier to spread around, rinse it out and not as fragrant.  We haven't used any creme rinse type products.  Since she hates her bath it is all we can do to keep Cirra in the tub to get through her bath with shampoo only.  I can't imagine then trying to deal with creme rinse.  Is it true that a dog's hair should not be brushed dry becasue it will damage the coat???  Not always realistic.  Anyway, we have tried just spraying plain water and a few "spritzer/detangler" type things.  The Earthbath Spritzer was just too fragrant.  Bark and Bath has  a detangler that we use once in a while.  Usually we just brush.  Any ides for urine stains???  Prior to the last bath we tried #1 All Systems Super Whitening Gel Stain Remover however it is not a "natural" product.  She still has staining.  We tried that Ice on Ice product and it didn't seem to wash out very well???  Also not a  "natural" product.  The ingredients in the pet "cosmetics" can be very frightening and I found it difficult to get some of these companies to  tell what is in their products.  Even though Cirra does not get a bath very often we prefer to use the more "natural" products that are available.  Cirra always receives numerous comments about how nice her coat looks.  She has a good diet and gets lots of brushing.

I am FASCINATED by all these different shampoos!

All anyone in my family has ever used on our animals is the No-More-Tears Johnson's Baby Shampoo--dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, whatever--if was good enough for the baby, it was certainly good enough for the dog! Never Joy, though; that's what Mom put in the tub with us kids instead of expensive bubble bath! ;D

Using a dish soap can have benefits.  The grease cutting properties will remove the waxy layer of the fleas, will dehydrate them, and they die from dehydration.  You have to leave it on them about 5 - 10 min for this to work, about the same time a flea shampoo is left on.  Just be careful about getting dish soap in eyes, as it can cause pretty severe ulcers. Again they grease cutting properties removes the lubricant in the eye, and the blinking that follows from irritation can rub ulcers on the cornea.

I don't use Joy, I use Dawn when my girl is especially grubby, but always follow it with a conditioning rinse, dont want to dry her skin out.

We use Crystal white, lemon scent,I usualy make up my own solution,in an old shampoo bottle, half crystal white and half Adams flea and tick mist, the water I add in the bath.

Believe me the more water on the dog the more suds you get.

It leaves them all bug free and smelling pretty good.

Tricia and the fur kids.

We have tried many different things on my monsters over the years.  With the crew I have now, they get muddy so often, we need something we can use frequently without harming them, so we are currently using Johnson's baby shampoo.    They smell awesome, but only for a few days, or until their next mudwrestling "event".  All three were bathed yesterday, as two had vet appointments, and the third had been playing in the mud for hours.  Their coats are so soft, shiny, and just beautiful today!  The vet even commented on how great our rescue, Jesse's coat looked after such a short time since coming to live with us.

Spectrum LAbratories, the saflea shampoo is fabulous, i also use blue minx made by proline.
i do not like to always switch i will stick to what works.
i love these two and have no desire to try anything else.
the saflea kills fleas and leaves a fresh mentholy minty smell to their fur, and they are clean, squeeky clean
the blue minx is wonderful , pleasant smelling for several weeks in their fur and the black is black and the white is white white.
As a groomer i highly recommend a monthly bath with shampoo a professional recommends.
a newf needs to be done completly to keep coat maintenance properly maintained for healthy skin and coat.

When I was a groomer we used diluted dish soap as a prebath to get the grime off.  This also began working on any fleas the dog had.  We always rinsed and finished with a second or third bath using various doggy shampoos.  Always some type of tearless on the face though-no dish soap on the face.  It is too risky to use dish soap around the eyes-OUCHIE!!!  Nature's Choice has a great line of shampoos.  They make one called hypo-a that is great.  Also groomer's edge shampoo is fantastic.  They have a sulphur and coal tar shampoo called furst aid that is fantastic for deodorizing the dog and does a great job on skin problems (flea bites, irritations, etc).

I am an assistant manager at a local chain pet store and have access to many different types of shampoos.  There is a brand called Kenic which has a great tea tree oil shampoo.
