: Blowing the Coat
: Winslow 151 August 08, 2006, 05:57:47 AM
Hi

Winslow is shedding like crazy!! I have combed out a ton of hair the last few days, and it is coming out in clumps. Could he be blowing his coat this late in the summer? The clumps are not leaving bear spots it just seems to be never ending. His skin is pretty dry also. I suspect the heat, he is acting normal so it is probably just the coat blow but it is all new to me does it sound right?  ???

I've taken a Walmart bag stuffed full out of Sam & Pippin in the past 2 days...also coming out in clumps...I'm not sure if they are still blowing their coats or if it's undercoat I missed...It's been REALLY hot here for quite awhile so maybe they're doing a partial blow.

Hi,

Ok makes sense, it has been real hot here so I have had him hosed down and he did a ton of water play at the New England Birthday bash. So that would account for this weeks Extra tumbleweeds!!! Thanks!!

Yeah, Zoey's been blowing coat again now too! And she already did back in March! I couldn't figure it out except that it's just been so hot. She's got a pool that she just gets her feet wet in, so the water thing isn't doing it for her. What's going on?

Eyup, depending on how old he is, and, if he was nuetered recently, anesthetic causes hair loss.
also, the weather dictates coat thickness or thinning of the coat, shedding can and will happen in very hot conditions.
you also might want to keep an eye out if sores develop, make sure he does not have a defective thyroid.
