: Would anyone like to come to a lower Midwest meet 'n greet?
: Saint and Mal mom September 04, 2006, 07:46:04 AM
I know there aren't a whole lot of people around my area, but I just thought if there are some new members or others who are interested, perhaps we could discuss it? If you would like to suggest a specific weekend, place, or time, that's just fine with me!  :) Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, maybe Arkansas are all pretty easy for me to get to. Maybe Nebraska too. Is anyone able to or willing?

I am if the date works out.  Jackie Wood Tanimara Great Pyrenees, extreme south central MO.

Wonderful! Do you have any dates that will absoulutely not work out? Then perhaps we can go from there. Any suggestions of a place?

Right now Sept 7 - 21.  Lots going on right now.  Holidays are not good either of course.  But that's it.  I'll have to think about a place.  There is a big hotel with acompaning camping sites right on the lake (Bull Shoals) that would probably accomadate both hotel stayers and campers.  I'll have to check and see if they take dogs at the hotel first... Perhaps October? I have a few days off around the 24th of that month or so I think. Do you have anything going on around then? Do you know if anyone else might be interested?

I would love to but, as it stands now, I am lucky to get to leave my house much less the state of Iowa. :-\ :(

We'd love to!  We're in northeastern Oklahoma now and the newfie girls would love to make some new big-pawed friends!  We're out for the end of September, but October works well for us too.  Yippee! :)

I would be interested! It would depend on how far it is though.

Yay! Glad to hear some others are interested too! Okay, so can we maybe narrow it down to the end of October perhaps? Is that bad for anyone's schedule? And Gypsy, is there anyway or anywhere we could hold it that it would be easy for you to come to and get back home without being gone for too long? Anyone have any other suggestions of a good place to hold it? We are wide open here!

I'm game for another meet-up!
I would probably have to do the drive there & back in the same day (like I did for the Indy meet), but I don't have a problem with that! ;D

I don't think I can get away...My hubby is only home from Wed.night until Sat. morning each week...If everyone can come up with dates that work around that I might be able to make it.

I know we all can camp out at Chelle's! She has a huge yard and a go cart track. I know it's in Iowa, but it will be tons of fun!

Iowa! That would work for me fine! Let's see here. The dates in October that would work for me are the 24th through 29th. That is a Thursday through a Sunday. Anyone against sometime during those days? I'm getting a little excited now! But I don't want to schedule a meet n greet at Chelle's house unless it's okay with her. Would that be a lot of trouble for you, Chelle? Other suggestions are okay too!
: Re: Would anyone like to come to a lower Midwest meet 'n greet?

No, that would be great!...I would love to have everyone here!...Starting on Thursday would be great too because my hubby is home Thursday & Friday & can help me with everything...I f alot of people can make it some will have to pitch tents in the back yard or I can check to see if any nearby hotels will take dogs...It's not the people...I am thinking of how to keep the dogs seperated while we sleep so there is no problems between them....My back yard isapprox. 3/4 an acre & fenced in. :)

Are you sure something like this would be no trouble? Your yard does sound nice and big. And we could all bring something to eat the first few nights like they did at the other Midwest Meet n Greet this summer to help out.

No, it is no trouble at all but I think it will be getting too cold to pitch tents at the end of Oct. don't you?...Again,I wouldn't care at all if people wanted to camp out in my living room & dining room like a slumber party ;D but I am worried about keeping the dogs seperated while we sleep...My dogs can go to bed with me so if not too many come we can stay in my house providing everyone dogs get along...I wouldn't trust Sam without me right with him...He has issues...Not a biter but he will try to intimidate if not watched over..I am more vigilant with him than Sheba & Pippin...Maybe I stress toomuch but he has an"edge" to him that I like to stay on top of...Not with other dogs really but with people...Pippi n is the one I watch closer with other dogs...He doesn't like too much tomfoolery unless it is from Sheba..lol!...All 3 of my dogs come from long gaurdian lines which gives them more of an "edge" than pet line Pyrs...or maybe I just worry too much...lol!
Anyway, I really would enjoy having it here so long as you guys realize my dogs can be unruly beasts...lol!
How do you think we should do it St. & Mal Mom? :-\ :)
: Re: Would anyone like to come to a lower Midwest meet 'n greet?

My Zoey sure has a dominant streak in her. She always dominates Dolly, even though she's 30 pounds lighter. I agree that my Zoey and anyone else who has concerns about their dog with the others at night, that we'll have to find a way to separate them somehow. Perhaps I could bring one of those steaks that go in the ground to tie out the dog. I have one for Zoey. Dolly is no problem. She could care less if she were the only dog left on earth so long as she has food!  ::) She barely even interacts with them. But oh well!

Okay, everyone interested in coming to this, we probably need to start finding out who is coming for sure and why might come but it depends so we can figure out how many people and dogs we'll have. Thanks!

So far, just from the posts already made, I count at least 13 interested people and/or dogs.

K...everyone who thinks they can make it let us know...If it doesn't work out for fall we can always do spring too! ;D

Jackie

April

Kristi

If you guys could maybe let us know if these dates in October are going to work out or not and maybe how many of your puppers you'll bring, then we might be able to get a general idea of how to work this out. If these dates end up not working out, that's okay! Like Chelle said, maybe spring!

I will have to say sort of...
As of right now, I am scheduled to be in court that week... that could change if we reach an agreement before then :-\
I would still consider driving out on the Saturday like I did for the Indy Meet. ;)

It's pretty far for us too...about 10 hours.  The dates are okay for us, though.  Maybe we could make it?  There would be two humans and two newfie girls who love to play.  :)

That would be cool!...Shall I check to hotels around here to see if they will take dogs...Do you think it will be too cold to pitch tents?...Or should we take our chances with this dogs & "camp" out on the floors in my living room & dining room?...Or should we wait until spring when it will be warm enough to camp out in the yard? :-\

I have been eyeballing this thread, trying to figure out a way to jump on board, but I really can't.  :-\ That is in the heart of hockey season, and we have already committed Casey to the season. But it isn't that far, and we will plan something next spring/summer, cuz I am jonesing to meet my (evil?) twin. LOL

Well, so are we kind of thinking we want to wait or go ahead and have it and maybe something later in spring will pop up? Either way is fine with me! Chelle, temperatures and weather will affect this of course! What kind of weather do you guys usually have in Iowa around late October? And then how is it in spring?
: Re: Would anyone like to come to a lower Midwest meet 'n greet?

Late Oct. is getting downright cold at night...Spring is gorgeous around mid to late April or early May...If people want to do it next month we can...for those who can't make it we can do it again in the spring...or we can just wait until  spring...It all works for me! ;D...Anyone? :-\

I know you didn't mention March, but I have quite a few days off from school then too. Maybe something then or a weekend in spring would be fine with me too. But if anyone else is game to go in October, I'll go too! It's an 8 hour drive for us. Any takers on October? If not, we can always plan for spring!

March would be good but it is pretty cold here in the first part of the month at least...When are you off of school?
: Re: Would anyone like to come to a lower Midwest meet 'n greet?

My spring break is March 19-23, but that also includes the weekend before and after those days, so it's actually March 17-25. After that, I pretty much have no time off. And with this being my senior year, going all the way up and back in just a weekend and going back to school on a Monday would be pretty hard for me.

I think the verdict is to wait until spring, okay everyone? That seems to work best overall for a lot of people. That gives us more time to plan too! Is that okay, Chelle? Thank you so much for being willing to host this though, now or later!  :) You are so sweet. Come January, I'll bump this topic and we can keep planning from where we are now. Okay folks?!  ;)

I think that will work fine & give everyone time to decide what works for them & to plan...I REALLY hope we can do it come spring though!...With dh gone 5 days a week it is near impossible for me to get away with all the critters we have here...I don't trust pet sitters & it is way too expensive to board the other 11 animals besides the dogs...& I will never board the dogs unless it is of vital importance & I really need dh to help me manage all 3 of them.
Everyone what works for you in spring?...Any idea?...I will say it would be better starting on a Wed. or Thursday & going from there because, again, then I will have dh for helping me...When I find out it will come together for sure I'm going to try & start planning some fun events...I am, as I type, trying to figure out how to get a police type radar gun so we can do a "radar run"...That's when you set up a straight coarse & set your dog loose & radar how fast they run. ;D

Oh my gosh, that would be so fun! And starting it on a Wed. or Thurs. would totally work for me, but then that's just my schedule. We'll see how it goes for everyone else. And we'll get dates figured out soon enough. And this will definitely give me and everyone else time to get good and excited for it! Yay! Chelle, let me know if you need any brainstorming ideas for fun things to do! (not saying I'll have any but if I do, you can bet it will have to do with food!  ;) Go figure!)

Bring on the brainstorm! ;D lol! ...I am also planning on using our 2 & 1/2 ft. deep pool for all dogs that want to dip...For the nature lovers there is a creek nearby with some decent swimming holes that I have standing permission to use...We also have a huge bonfire pit in our fenced back yard & a go-cart track with an adult sized dune buggy that moves out (ask April& he dh...lol) & we are not above wetting down the track to muddy to kickup some fun & dirt clods...lol!...& if we get bored in my yard the "Field of Dreams" filming site is open to the public (& their dogs ;D) right here in small town USA (Dyersville..my town :)) to play a game or two...I am getting very excited!...Who's coming?...C'mon all! :-* ;D ;D
