: It seems to be working!
: gerty647 April 09, 2007, 09:27:01 AM
Annabelle seems to be getting over her obsession with the cat,I've been using the "leave it" command along with the spray bottle.
She even got within inches of the cat today and didn't do anything,Now that could be because she knew I had treats,
I just feel sooooo guilty because whenever she sees the spray bottle she cowars down like shes been beatin.
It's also hard to get her to come to you after you squirt her.
I don't soak her when I do use it,just a little squirt but it seems to be enough to deter her from chasing the cat down the hallway.

Awwww, well I'm glad it's working! Too bad she acts so strongly, but I would think she'd get used to it in a good way at least. Mine never cowared like that or refuse to come to me after. They just make that cute little scrunched up, squinty eye face and get distracted hahahah.

Well luckly she only reacts that way for a few minutes.
So hopefully she'll get the point soon so that we can all live in peace.

our rescue, sheeba, was/is like this also.  when we got her she was very unstable, but we've had her for a year and a half now and she's almost completely turned around.  she does still cower if things get loud, but the second she realizes things aren't going to "get her" she's fine.  when we do scold her, and she pouts, we ignore her.  we don't promote the behavior by giving her affection, but then we don't not scold her for that behavior either, we just ignore it.  we feel she needs to know she doesn't need to do that behavior, and there will not be any "oh poor baby" because she shows instability.  so far, it's worked great for her, and helped her confidence level by not babying her and letting her learn to calm herself.  hold fast, things will work!

We usually ignore her pouting,I've just never had a dog that did that.
I wish the spray bottle technique worked on the kids!

it does but only if you use mace / pepper spray instead of water...  JUST PLAYING!  i don't do that, but i wish a spray bottle would work too!

I'm glad the spray bottle is working for you! Koby just knows now when I reach for the squirt bottle to get into a down stay!  ;D
