Cirra completed the requirements for the Dog Scouts Pack Dog Title before it was too hot, too many bugs and too many tourists - 50 miles plus a five mile "checkout" hike. Here are a few more pictures.

Congrats! It looks like the weather was beautiful for the hike.

Congrats on the new title. That's awesome. If you don't mind my asking how do you like the Dog Scouts? Are you in a troop in your area? I've been looking at their website and they don't have a troop in my area yet so not sure how I can join it without a troop and without going to a camp and having my pups temperament tested.

We don't have a troop in our area. Along with a friend who has a Lab we joined the Dog Scouts as memebers and signed up our dogs as "cadets". There is an annual memebership fee. The Pack Dog Titles are available to members. The dog and handler have to pass a written and practical test to become a Dog Scout. If there is not a troop in your area you can videotape yourself and dog for the test. We are planning on doing that over the summer - stay tuned for that. We are still working with Cirra on some of the behaviors. They require a very strong "leave it". Once your dog is a Dog Scout then they can start earning badges. We are in Maine so are far from their camps. The Dog Scouts promote responsible dog ownership and positive training methods. There ia a lot of great information on their website. It seems that it would take a lot of energy to get a troop started however we may consider it at some point. We like to do many different activities with Cirra and this is just one that we have gotten in to. She is also working on her Versatility Titles with the Great Pyrenees Club of America.

Gorgeous pictures. and i love the last pic. :) all of them are great though. And she gets to stop for a snack out of her mountain woman bag. That's cool.

Way to go Cirra. I think it's super cool that you guys are so active. I've never known of the Dog Scouts but they sound very cool. Best of luck with all you do.
