I could walk around the yard barefoot in safety...
My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated...
All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture, and cars would be
free of hair...
When the doorbell rings, it wouldn't sound like a kennel...
I could sit on the couch and my bed the way I wanted,
without taking into consideration how much space several fur bodies would need to get comfortable...
I would not have strange presents under my Christmas tree
-- dog bones, stuffed animals, toys, treats nor would I have to explain to people why I wrap them...
I would have money ... and no guilt to go on a real vacation...
I would not be on a first-name basis with 4 veterinarians,
as I put their yet unborn grandkids through college...
The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: out,
sit,down, come, no, stay, and leave him/her/it ALONE...
My house would not be cordoned off into zones with baby
gates or barriers...
My house would not look like a day care center, toys
everywhere...
My pockets would not contain things like poop bags, treats
and an extra leash...
I would no longer have to Spell the words B-A-L-L-,F-R-I-S-B-E-E, W-A-L-K, T-R-E-A-T, B-I-K-E or C-A-R...
I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as
outside...
I'd look forward to spring and the rainy season instead of
dreading "mud" season...
I would not have to answer the question "Why do you have so
many animals?" from people who do not have the joy in their lives of knowing they are loved unconditionall y by someone as close to an angel as they will ever get...
If I didn't have dogs...
How empty my life would be.

Awww, it's so true! I wouldn't trade all of the fur bunnies (nope, not dust), dog toys, etc. for all the clean in the world. Now a housekeeper to go with my dogs & kids? In a nanosecond!

Nope, I can't relate at all! Not that I just went and bought a 2'x 2'x 4' water trough for the dogs today so that Kaila had a bigger bowl to swim in outside along with her kiddie pool. Nope, I didn't do it. ;D

It is pouring down rain outside as I am reading these- all of the pups are in the house and most of them are standing on the back of the couch and barking at some unknown evil. I am about to have to log off to go and vacuum up the equivalent of another Pyrenees and throw away the stuffings of a stuffed baby who has now crossed over to the stuffed toy bridge. Once I finish this, Zoey will need her meds, drain and cleaned, and together we will decide if we are going to rewrap with pink wrap or that really pretty flourescent orange wrap. I have the mop ready for the mounds of mud that will be brought in after they all make the mad dash for the potty and of course I am again washing the bed covers since there is always at least 200 pounds of dog that sleeps with us every nite. I pity the non pet person, as they have never ever really experienced unconditional love.

I can't imagine not ever having a dog..ever. "Those" people do not know what they are missing....hav e they ever seen a dog mate with a mammal..I think not..have they ever been locked out of the house late at night by a Vizsla grinning on the inside....see what they are missing....lol

Kelly, once your little baby joins you, all that stuff will still be true, dogs or no - with some modifications, of course! ;D
I had my 13 week old puppy in the stroller with my 17 month old son today and someone said, "Aw, they're so cute - don't you wish they could just stay that way?". I'm think "WHAT? They both pee on my floor, or me. They fight over toys, they take my shoes and drag them everywhere, they chase the cat, they eat each other's food - ahhh!" Small kids and puppies - cut from the same cloth, I think. ;)

My aunts are not "pet people". My one aunt comes to my house and when one of my animals, be it dog, cat or ferret, she puts her foot out so thay can't come closer and says "don't even think about". She's not kicking at them, just keeping them at a distance.
I just don't understand it. It's just something I cannot comprehend how someone can voluntarily live without those looks of absolute love that our pets give us.

I don't know, I couldn't do it, I just couldn't, animals a such a big part of my life! I relish the time I spent working at the Toronto Zoo.

What is funny is that so much of that stuff I was so guilty of before I had kids.. so like spelling out those words...soon it will be candy/cookies/park/grandmas/chuck e cheese you will be spelling out and you will have that hard floor instead of carpeting to avoid the kool-aid spills and occasional nights where throwing up all over the floor is unavoidable. Parenthood certainly changes things that sfor sure.
