What do all of you use on your pyr's tails? I have a pin brush, comb, rake, etc. and none of it seems to do a good job on Jenny's tail. It always seems tangled, coarse, and it's just so hard to brush out. I use shampoo, conditioner, and conditioning spray, but none of it seems to help.

If her tail is really matted you can use this tool. It works great for hard areas! When you groom her make sure you spend good amount of time grooming her tail :)

I use a long pins brush (http://www.showdogstore.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=54) and a rake and it works fine. Lily's tail is never matted...just her brains ;) ;D

I do the exact same things. Love, love, love, grooming my guys! :D You should see the treasures I've gathered just today.
And ~ Lily Girl's brains are NEVER matted. ;) :D :-* Her Mommy's just joking. :-* :-* :-*

I wish I had that problem right now. :'( We've blown our coats. And Sadie well thinks it's pure torture to have a brush put on her.

I use a rake and pin brush. I have my dogs lay on the floor, on their side. I sit beside them and laying the tail flat on the floor, brush or rake the fur straight down from the tail. It works just like brushing out long hair on a person. Starting at the end of the fur, farthest from the actual "tail" and working your way up to the "tail". I also don't use any condiitoners on them and only wash them with baby shampoo. My Tibetan, Caucasian and Jake, the pyr, all have the same type of tails, with that same stiff, long fur. The Caucasian's is the worst of the bunch and matts up if you look at it. She still has the really dry, horrible hair on her tail that she came with. Everywhere else, the fur has come back in nice, soft and silky, other than her tail. I try to brush them at least every other day, if not every day, but if I get busy and miss a few times, it takes a while to get it all done.

I also use the furminator for heavy shedding times to help remove the excess fur.
