I had Boston on this for quite a while and we were very impressed. His coat looked good, poops were good and his muscle tone was awesome. Of all the kibbles Boston was on - Canidae, Wellness, Innova, Solid Gold BATM and Orijen - Legacy was actually my favourite for Boston. We've since switched to raw, but we keep a small bag of it on hand for treats and emergencies. Hopefully Bubba and Lola like it  :)

LOL, Why the heck would they put that in there?! Ok that is just weird. :P

I'm mixing it with Orijen but so far they are not all that interested in it. :( Although they are still snubbing the Orijen so that could be why. I guess we will find out when we get to 100% Horizon.

Lola ate the mixture for 2 days and this morning she refused it all together. Bubba ate his once I added warm water to it. We might have to go back to something 'with grain'. I don't know what's up with them but their pickyness is driving me insane! :D

Do your picky pups like Merrick? You can add water and make a gravy with it--it does have grain, but the Wilderness Blend is still highly rated, when I fed it to my dogs, they loved it.  ;D

Merrick is a no go with hubby.. long story. Actually alot of foods are no goes in this house, like Diamond or anything made by them.

LOL Liz, Lola does 'nurse' off of Bubba.. it's just not his boobs. GAG! It's her new favourite bad habit.  :-[

Hubby used to be a feed whatever kinda guy.. I think I've rubbed off on him in a bad way. LOL When I'm looking at new foods the first thing he says is who makes that?! :D

Actually I snuck some 'Before Grain' chicken in for little Demon. I bought a little sample bag and hid it. LMAO The dogs are a little different though since he sometimes feeds them. I may be able to work it in as a mixer.. but not as a main diet or a food to rotate with.

Have you seen Acana's new grain free foods?

Not to thread-jack...  :-[  But, there's a new food out called Halo...heard of it? They're the only ones I've seen that make canned food in a 20oz can!  And...

This is going to sound weird... :-\Hubs likes to "test" the dog food/treats for himself...he says "if it's something I won't eat, I'm not feeding it to my boys"  I guess I should appreciate his heart is in the right place... :D

But anyway, he likes Halo...so...I guess the boys like it too?

I agree the canned food is much better! Monty's allergic to eggs...so...he gets the Salmon canned food...along with his kibbles :)

We are going to stick with the Orijen/Horizon mix for the time being. Bubba is eating it fine now and Lola will eat if I soak it long enough to make the kibble soggy. No crunchy kibble.

I think I have Lola figured out now.... I checked her teeth when this pickyness started and I didn't see anything abnormal. BUT I brushed her teeth today and pulled some hair out from under the gums of her fangs. I'm going to make an appointment and get my vet to check her teeth. Looks like she's in for a teeth cleaning when we get her spayed. :-\

I'm a tool.. LOL I just remembered that I switched Lola to Orijen when she was 14 months old.. That's when all the recalls first started and I didn't trust ANY food that contained grain. She's 28 months old now and has done perfectly fine.

I do have to watch her portions expecially if she's given extras. But she's 135-140 pounds and getting 4 cups a day. No joint or growth issues though. Aside from her clicky knee but that's from an injury that happened when she was 4 months old.. she smashed it off the metal railing on our front porch.

Your not a tool.... thanks for the info... I really want Titan to be on grain free. He has so many bowl issues it just makes sense less output might just help the problem. Even mixing half and half his stool is smaller. Anyways gross poopy talk.... thanks again! Sorry to hear about Lola's knee sounds a little painful... clumsy puppies!

I went and bought the big bag of Horizon Legacy. All 28 something pounds of it. ::) Geez the bags get smaller and smaller don't they?! :-\

Plus I bought some 'Before Grain' 100% canned which is just meat and water. I got a can of chicken and a can of tripe to start with.. It's 3.29 a can! :o Shhhh.. don't tell hubby. ;)

Damn picky dogs.. LOL
