: Barking in the car - how to stop it???
: podiecat September 08, 2008, 05:16:18 PM
Miraculously we have stopped 99% of Lia's Pyr barking in the house.  So now she has decided that barking non-stop in the car while I've gone in a store or other errand is just fine.  I'm not scolding her when I come back because she's quiet with the happiest smirk on her face then.

Anyone have luck changing that behavior?

I am so in love with this girl.  Every evening when my bedroom begins to get dark she goes in to lie on her bed and chew her rawhide so tenderly....

So endearing..... ...

Hi Holly,

Lia is in heat now and even if she was not, I don't know if she will make it as a hearing ear dog.  If she does not, then that's okay - she will stay with me as my only dog.  Even if she does make it though, she needs to know not to bark if/when waiting for me.

I'm not even starting to work with her on service dog related tasks until after she's feeling better from being spayed in two months.  For now we are just staying away from boys and learning basics like sit, down and stay..... and nipping the few unacceptable behaviors in the bud.

I'm not rushing this at all.  We have both been through traumas and are taking it slow.  I will only begin with specialized training once she's feeling great and also once I figure out her learning style well enough so I know how and she knows why - very important with her being a Pyr mix.

I meant Lia was in season...  But yes, I don't leave her in the car unless it's cloudy and not hot at all...  I have a crate but I'm not rushing that - we are in the feed in the crate stage now.  She loves being in the car - it's just that she now has discovered she can bark all she wants when she's in there and I've gone in someplace for a few minutes.....

What's funny is that she never made a peep in the car until her barking at home stopped - even though the barking at home was guardian type with growling.....
