If you haven't heard the story about Gander the Newfoundland, well here it is.  It is a story about his heroic events that lead up to his demise.

Our newf has been invited to participate at the Remembrance Day ceremonies, walking with the color party, and we will read the story about Gander.

I'm so happy that award exists!!!  These big boys save our lives on a daily basis and one went up and beyond the "call of duty", oh! it just makes me so happy that people notice that.  Sorry this is a little jagged, i am just so moved by the story.  Congrats on getting to be a part of it!!!!!

Wow, that is a neat piece of history.  I've never heard of a newf being used in the military, even if just a mascot.  What a great honor to him and for him to be given the award.

Dogs are such amazing creatures! There is never a story that doesn't blow my mind at how unbelievably selfless they are.

This happened in 1941, and he didn't get recognized until 2000.  It's amazing that a dog would actually do that, to grab a grenade and know to run away from your own people and then die for it, I wonder what he was thinking when he did this brave act.  How many people would sacrifice themselves for others?
