: *Question* Protein content of a food
: Akitamom08 January 07, 2009, 07:13:52 AM
I was talking to a few of my friends and we were having disagreements on Protein in dogs food. So maybe some one can help me explain it to them.My questions are:::

*Is their such thing as to much protein?
Like with EVO its 42% Protein
Wellness Core its 34% Protein
Taste of the Wild 'Wetlands formula' its 32% Protein - I feed this

*Is it bad to feed high Protein foods?

*Isnt the Higher the Protein the better?

*What about the named meat "meal" is it good? Does it mean the meat was dry so it stays at the top of the list?

*What would rate Taste of the Wild Wetlands Formula?

*Is taste of the wild dog food pretty good?

Thanks for all the Help! :)

Meat "meal" means all the water was removed from the meat to make the kibble, "meat" just means that the water was not removed. and since they must remove water to  make kibble, anything just named "meat" (chicken, lamb, beef ect..) will move really far down the list once the kibble is made. About protein content that depends on the breed, in mastiff puppies too high of protein can cause pano ( a bowing of the front legs) the best thing to do is look up your breed and see what the recommended ratio's are, protein, calcium, carbs., ects..

hope this helps and from what i have heard taste of the wild is a great food. there is a site called www.dogfoodana lysis.com that rates all the foods and tells you why.
