Quick, before the snow comes!  How many people are in New England that'd like to have a get together?  We (Moni and I) were figuring that if we find out where everyone is, and how far they'd be willing to drive, we'd find a dog park in an area that'd be good for everyone.  So post where you are, and how far you'd be willing to drive, as well as what days are best for you!

Matt's mom is from Franklin..... Weird.  K I'll start from there!  This is 50 minutes from Franklin!

They have seating, parking, it's fenced in, there's water, trash, and dogs are allowed off lead.

The first park on the doggeek list, the Henry Garsney park in Medway, is about 10 minutes from our house and we have taken zoey there a few times. If we meet anywhere it has to be fenced in; I don't feel comfortable with zoey off leash without a fence

I trust Sanity off leash, but I too would feel more comfortable if the park was fenced in.

Dont know if you are interested, but, Trail Bound Hounds offers weekly walks in Southeastern Ma.  October 1st's walk will be in Duxbury.  You can check our website for more info: www.trailbound hounds.org
I should add, I am willing to travel most anywhere for a get together.  ;)

Did you guys meet up/cancel/still planning?  I just saw this post and would definitely be interested in meeting fellow New England BPOers.  We live in Framingham - exit 13 off the Pike.

Hi,

Winslow and we are in Lowell, we'll be taking the camper out to Salisbury State park tomorrow for an overnighter, one last time before we winterize  :'(.

The park is dog friendly, with dog present baggies on all the entrace paths to the beach ;D.

Hey I wanna meet up too! That would be so fun, I live pretty close to Framingham and there's a nice big field (not fenced) that has dog shows sometime near me.

I'm interested.  I live in Southeastern CT but we could easily make a trip up.

: Anky January 23, 2006, 05:15:27 PM
OK does anyone want to officially start working on this?  First off we need a Date.  Sundays are best for me, because I work all day Saturday.  And I refuse to let this commence without me! :P
: Re: New England people
: Titansmom January 23, 2006, 05:47:32 PM
I think Sunday would be a better day to so that people who were going to travel a bit can come and stay somewhere on Saturday night as not to be to tried to have fun.
Maybe February 26 would be soon enough but leave some time for planning.
Of course being that this is New England we are never safe from snow but we can plan an alternate date too.
: Re: New England people
: Anky January 23, 2006, 05:50:47 PM
That date sounds good to me, anyone else?  Sounds like central MA would be the best locale, but I might be wrong.  Any good parks around there?

Hi,

Salisbury beach State Park in Salisbury MA (on the NH Maine border) is pretty nice. http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/northeast/salb.htm

I have camped there numerous times they are pet friendly and do have a group area I could look into. Might be more of a spring Local (although this is spring for Winslow) but let me know if there is interest as a more northern NE destination.
: Re: New England people
: Boobearsmom January 24, 2006, 09:48:22 AM
Sunday is fine with me.   ;D
: Re: New England people
: chaos270 January 24, 2006, 02:23:48 PM
Sunday sounds ok for us if I can drag my brother or my mom.  Are you sure that park is open now, on the website it said something about being open only til november for off season but that was for camping not gathering, so is someone going to call to check it out?  Wow that was a run-on sentence oh well.

: my3dogs January 24, 2006, 02:30:15 PM
I won't be able to make this one.   To much on my plate at the moment.
Hopefully this won't be the only one.
: Re: New England people
: Winslow 151 January 24, 2006, 04:50:48 PM
Hi,

The Salisbury state reservation is closed until April. So I guess the Feb 26th get together will have to be somewhere else.

: Re: New England people
: chaos270 January 24, 2006, 06:02:52 PM
I was looking on the website that Winslow151 found and there are two campgrounds w/ heated bathroom open offseason but being from CT have no clue what they're like....

Shawme Crowell State Forest, Sandwich, 508-888-0351
        October 10, 2005 through April 13, 2006
Thursday, Friday and Saturday night stays only, plus the Wednesday before Thanksgiving
        Heated bathroom facility
        No dumping station
        No hookups
        Reservations accepted
Walk-in available first come, first serve

Mohawk Trail State Forest, Charlemont, 413-339-5504
        October 15, 2005 through May 4, 2006
        Heated bathroom facility
        No dumping station
        No hookups
Cabins sleep 3 or 5 persons and are reservable year-round
        Reservations accepted for cabins only
Tent sites are walk-in first come, first serve- call the park for road and accessibility conditions

Anyone from Mass know about these places?
: Re: New England people
: chaos270 January 26, 2006, 04:54:58 PM
Come on guys I want to meet you all don't let it die again.....Mass people read the above post and say if you know about any of those places.
: Re: New England people
: Winslow 151 January 26, 2006, 05:58:02 PM
Hi,

Fumble is in the sandwich area, and some one on this chain Moni (maybe) is out in central MA where Mohawk is. Try to PM them if they don't show up on this thread.
: Re: New England people
: chaos270 January 26, 2006, 07:08:47 PM
I'm thinking that unless there is something totally wrong with Shawme- Cromwell Forest we should go there because there are bear warnings for Mohawk (unless they're still hibernating or something)  Shawme also has beach access supposedly though so that may be better....don't know how dog friendly they are though so anyone from CapeCod area been there?
: Re: New England people
: chaos270 January 27, 2006, 10:49:21 PM
Ok everyone who's interested reply to this so I know how many want to go.  I found a list of campsites that include dayuse I'm not sure if they are all open but I can try to call if everyone says they're interested.  I'm thinking Central Mass would be the best section to find a place so everyone can come.  But if people aren't as interested as before I'll find the centralized area.  Ok here's the site and feel free to make recommendation s but I think our best bet would be to find a camp that offers winter type sports and allow dogs I think all Mass parks allow leashed dogs but I'm not sure.  If anyone else knows of any dog parks that allow off leash let me know and we can try those places.

If anyone else knows of any dog parks that allow off leash let me know and we can try those places.

The dog park that I occasionally go to is the Henry Garsney (sp?) dog park in Mendon, MA. It's small but entirely fenced and offleash... I know some bernese mnt dog owners who take their dogs to one of the state parks regularly to go swimming. I want to say the one in acton, but maybe it is ashland. I will have to remember to ask them next tie we take zoey to their house to play

: Fumble January 28, 2006, 01:46:49 PM
Fumble and I will be more than welcome to check out the park in Sandwich this week!! But you guys know that we are all for any location as long as its on the weekend! My sister and I are definatly willing to drive esp to introduce fumble to some other big puppies!!! The poor guy needs to meet some other big dogs because he's bigger than every dog we see!! :)
: Re: New England people
: chaos270 January 28, 2006, 02:25:16 PM
I narrowed it down to four that might work someone would still need to call and it might be better for a Mass resident to do so.  But let's see there is
Brimfield
http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/central/brim.htm

Mt Tom
http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/central/mtom.htm

Douglas
http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/central/doug.htm

Ok so everyone let me know which you like.
: Re: New England people

BUMP come on guys let's make it work.
: Re: New England people
: Fumble January 30, 2006, 08:52:46 AM
let me think here... im thinking either the brimfield or the douglas park because mt. tom probably has a lot of snow this time of year..  i'm not sure either now much snow either of those have... but they might have less than mt. tom! lol!

Hi,

Ok Chaos270, I've planned a few group events and have found giving choices just forces people not to plan !! ::)

So since you are the driver on this pick a park and a date!! Start a new Thread with NE get together on "date" at "park" and take names of who will show up. ;D

It is funny but for some reason when groups are faced with choices no one wants to make the choice for the group. ???

Look at your calendar, pick a date and location and we will come!!  ;)

Yeah leave it to the one that lives in CT to figure it out plus juggle my classes.....go d there are so many choices I should hand it off to you guys.  Hmm I'll figure something out tonight I gotta go to class right now....so look for the post tommorrow or something.
: Re: New England people
: Winslow 151 January 30, 2006, 12:37:21 PM
Hi,

You could pick a place in CT also. If you organise you shouldn't plan to have to drive too far also.

I didn't mean to add more burden to your schedule!! I just wanted to point out that people need to be given a yes or no type answer. Otherwise they won't commit.
: Re: New England people
: Titansmom January 31, 2006, 11:17:13 AM
I may have found a place in Abington MA .
Its a doggie day care and they have 1/2 acre fenced. I am about to call the owner and see but wanted to throw it out there to you all. I will post again after I talk to him.

Ok so I spoke to the owner John. I am going to meet with him on Friday to check the place out parking ect.
: Re: New England people
: chaos270 January 31, 2006, 02:22:34 PM
If the doggie daycare doesn't work I'm thinking Douglas State Forest if the park people will get back to me on if it's open.  The dogparks I looked into required all dogs to be neutered which Fumble isn't yet and I didn't want to leave him out.
: Re: New England people
: Titansmom January 31, 2006, 02:54:34 PM
It will just be us there if it works out.
Yes in most place dogs must be fixed for daycare.
Titan isnt fixed yet either so I can understand your concern.
: Re: New England people
: Winslow 151 January 31, 2006, 04:17:26 PM
Hi,

Winslow hasn't lost the family Jewels yet either. What date are we looking at the more advanced the notice the more likely people can free their schedules.

: Re: New England people
: chaos270 January 31, 2006, 04:24:13 PM
Both of my two are spayed but we plan on only bringing Kali anyways because Lacey doesn't like strangers.  Also as Winslow said earlier start a new thread with the day time and location so everyone sees it.  As long as it's on the weekend and midday we should be able to make it up there.
: Re: New England people
: Titansmom February 02, 2006, 09:37:37 PM
Ok I went to K9 Kamp today and it looks great! The owner John was an extremely nice guy ;D. He just took over the business a few months ago and I guess has been cleaning the place up since and it shows. Its going to be a great place to gather. There is plenty of parking space as long as we use some sense;) in parking our vehicles because there are no marked spaces.
As John is cleaning he wants to move a few dog houses (sheds) and clean up some more to make it even better, so March 12 is the tentative date in his book for us. I was thinking 12:30-1ish to start. Its close to RT 3 and 24 or 495 easy to find anyway. If this sounds good to most of you please start another thread with DATE & TIME .

PS I wish I had remembered my camera. Maybe I can go take some pictures another time.
: Re: New England people
