They are lovely and loyal! Sadly they are falling into the wrong hands because of their intimidating looks. You can learn more about them by visiting http://www.CorsoLuv.com and see many more photos of them.

:) Cool photos - I have never seen Cane Corso but it is good to learn about this breed - May I ask about the ears - Dose the puppy gets their ears cut - bit like tail docks on the puppies at the vet??? OR is it normal of the breed??
Clear information would be really great if you could explain... Thanks...
: Re: Cane Corso's have big paws too.
: MolosserMart.com March 16, 2005, 08:35:41 PM
The ears and tails are cropped and docked. The ears are cropped based on owners decision usually as most breeders do not like to foot the bill for this. My boys ears were cropped when i got him at 4 months. The tails are docked by vet normally except in places like holland and a few other countries where it is becoming illegal to do so. Natural ears are preferred on most Corsos that are pets, whereas most that show generally get the ears cropped. The tail however is always done unless it is in a country that does not allow. And the croppign is not the same as with a rottie tail, it is more like a weimaraner where it is docked at the 4th vertabrae. Note in the pic this pic the length is much longer than a rottie or dobe docking. This is the correct docking size anything smaller than this is not to type standard. Although you have many breeders now days that breed and dont know that much on the breed that tend to just dock as a rotties tail would be, this is much to short and is not what the standard calls for.

thanks for asking i can talk on my breed all day long, as im sure most of you all can.  ;D

Same here as I got curious as I have never seen or heard of Cane Corso and checked on NZKC to see if they do have Cane Corso but nothing list in New Zealand Kennel Club website but it shown up as Italian Corso Dog - Didn't show image so I don't know yet about it - I don't know if there is any breeder in our country but I will find out. Also here in nz - The Groverment will have meeting and may set up with a law to stop from having tail docking. There was many people don't agree and do agree about the tail docking include dog showing etc....I don't know yet!!! Have to wait and see till I find out the news!...

: walnutcreekbernese March 17, 2005, 04:28:53 PM
It can be hard to confrimed about the tail docking because my father is hoping to get a American Cocker spaniel - Puppies will born through easter weekend (Next week!) - Cocker spaniel normally have tail docking - so not sure about the tail docking yet in this country!
What about America?? Do they stop tail docking???? Because my family's plan will be moving back to america in 2 years time and we will be taking our dogs - My bernese, our chihuahua and our black labrador with us include this cocker spaniel... - See photo of American cocker spaniel (Soon to be mother for the puppies next weekend) Also it have big paws! hee...... And Maxi our chihuahua, trained in Agility....cut ie!

Whenever I cannot find a breed recognized by the AKC, I visit the rare breed website.  Sure enough, they have info on the Cane Corso:

http://www.rarebreed.com/breeds/cane_corso/cane_history.html

If you've never ventured around that site, it's it's a great place to learn info on dogs you may never heard of.

What about America?? Do they stop tail docking????
Nope, no stop to the tail docking of Cockers here.  (I'm in America and have a Cocker.) Their tails are docked shortly after birth.

Good luck with the puppies!  Love to see photos!

The Cane Corso is not recog. by akc main, but they are in the akc-fss division. Personally i did not want them to be recognized for fear of even more bad breeders and owners. Their origin is Italy, they are fci/enci papered, there is a club here in usa that is for the cane corso in america. this breed as im sure most others has tons of political mumbo jumbo around it, americans for the most part breed the workability out of the dog and make them huge huge huge, where the country of orgin calls for a max standard for males at 110 pounds and femals 96 or so pounds. American bred Corso can be found at 160-170 and even sometimes more than that. :-[ It boils down to personal preference i suppose as i prefer smaller more agile type fitting closer to the overall italian standard.(which after all is their country of orgin)

http://www.corsoluv.com is my site and has photos of both fci(italian) type and iccfamerican) type corsi. I love the breed and only try to help in every way possible.  ;D

http://www.canecorsoitaliano.com/ here is also a ton more info from the parent club in italy!

he is considered a slate grey, most common in america as blue, but in italy he is  Slate Grey. Thanks He is actually in texas right now away from me, and has been for a while, but he is coming HOME THANK GOD sometime this month, so i will have more recent photos to share of him then!!!!

Why is your baby in Texas? And where are you from?
: Re: Cane Corso's have big paws too.
: MolosserMart.com March 17, 2005, 10:01:57 PM
Long story, to make it short and simple he didnt take to kindly to me not paying 101% of my attention all the time to him and he was becoming very depressed/sad, destructive, and only seemed to shred my husbands things, lol. He was not happy either that we had 2 children back to back i suppose as he just became more and more grumpy, me being a first time new mother i was paranoid to say the least and it broke my heart to let him stay in texas when we moved to ohio.  :(

I was not a happy camper, well needless to say on our last progress report of his situation where he is now it was a very depressing one for me, my baby lives out side in mud tied to a tree. We have tons of work ahead of us, lol or should i say i have tons of work ahead of me with getting him situated back with his rightful family again.  I am much less paranoid now than i used to be and not only that we are getting a master trainer to assist us in proper methods for his temperament type.

Bronx looks sweet, but boy is he a hard hard tempered dog. He is very protective and donest seem to like to share me much. A brief history on bronx and I. I got him for my 19th bday present all for me after researching the breed for 6 years i decided it was time. He traveled the USA with me being my companion and protector for about 2 straight years. One day my michael(my husband) and I came back into contact after an off and on friendship and well needless to say we were married and had children rather quickly and Bronx didnt adjust to the change of him not being by my side at all times. He made room for my husband and kids, but he was so annoying i was sad for him. I did what was best for my children at the time, and it tore my heart up to watch him stay behind. Anyway, last report of his updated pics were horrible and made me so furious i wanted to go that day and pick him up. So this month he is coming home, and we will have tons and i do mean tons of rehab to do with him. But my grey boy is worth every second of my time. I miss him deeply.

Elena,
I am so sorry to hear about your beloved Bronx. I am so glad that you are getting him back soon. I am sure that he will require a lot of work to reassimilate to your family...but you seem to have alot of devotion to him which will help. ALso, getting a trainer is a great idea! I'm sure it will help give you the skills you need to make his transition and your familys' a lot better. Best wishes!

Just joined recently and would like to introduce you to my boy, Luca an 8 year old Cane Corso.  Blue brindle, somewhat overweight at 160lbs but he was a giant among his litter mates. He is gentle with children, very alert and protective of his family.  He won a group blue ribbon at the rare breed association meet when he was 6 months old.  My wife calls him my shadow.

In Ontario Canada the Corso is recognized by the Rare Breed Club and are always one of the largest groups out showing. I believe they are the decendents of the Mollosians who were the war dogs of the Romans. A very ancient breed and still very popular in Italy. A friend of mine is breeding Mollosians, a noble and beautiful breed.

I have a 6 month old Cane Corso named Hamish and he is lovely. He is really smart, and quite easy to train. Hamish is quite protective, but never aggressive. He's great with children and loves nothing more to be used as a pillow to my 8 year old son. He's pretty good with other dogs, but is particularly drawn to the small breeds. I couldn't have asked for a better dog. He's my dog, but responds really well to my husband and is learning to take more commands from our son.

I've attached a photo of Hamish when he was 6 weeks, and I'll attach one of him taken a 2 months ago as well.

Her's Hamish a couple of months ago. His ears are natural-it just suits his personality, and his tail was docked right after birth.

We had the most amazing CC named Luca as well.  He was also a blue brindle.  He has been gone from us for three years now but, he was my best friend and I miss him deeply.

Luca died of osteoscarcoma at the age of 7.  When I started researching the web for breeders (we have had 4 CCs with in the family) I could not believe the shift in the breed.  I could not justify it for our home owners (we are insured by Lloyd's of London because of a TRUE mishap).  We now have a couple of Leonbergers - they are lovely giant dogs - but with a lot of hair and not as bright as my boy Luca.

Boy - do I miss him.

Hello.

I'll be the second one with a Cane Corso. His name is Maximus Del Morgan, Nuccio x Cleopatra, from Italy, and by Morgan Cane Corso. He's a little under 2 in these pictures, but was able to put on weight to be 100lbs now at 2 years.

Did you ever get your Bronx back from Texas? We had 2 CC's after a owning a Rott and you are right they are very hard tempered dogs. Sweet and faithful, but sometimes bull headed. Both our CC's we Scandifio CC's and unfortunately the first one had very advanced hip dysplasia and only lived to be 18 months old. The replacement was one of the sweetest girls I every had, but at 4 months old, after being in a run. Well, she had major crate anxiety and just could not keep form peeing all over herself even for short periods of time, less than 2 hours even. I gave her to a lovely family my sister knew with 33 acres and a nice 2 year old Dane. The last time we saw Mia, she was living life and had her new family wrapped around her paw! They can be challenging as a breed, but are lovely faitful, commited dogs. I hoep your baby is nto living tied to a tree anymore!

God Bless and Good luck!

Hello, I have a cane corso ( ORION) who is 9 and a cane corso/ bullmastiff mix puppy.  I absouletly LOVE the breed! What kind of work are you planning to do with your CC?  I wanted, and actually started training Orion in Schutzhund, but his temp was alittle to soft.  I did all the obedience  (and he learned very quickly) and started with the tracking and protection but then changed gears to agility and Rally~ I have found that the can be fairly sensitive and positive a postive approach works well. They still need a good leader with good dog skills, but not a hard handed one! Orion will turn 9 next week and is still very acitve, can turn on a dime, go hiking, swimming and loves to chase the geese :) but still is nice nad mellow in the house... I love him dearly!
Enjoy, LA
ps... make sure you are OK with drool before getting a CC...

Hi Orion! Pleased to meet you! I really want to work the dog in schutzhund, so I am looking for a line that has a higher than average prey/protection drive. I also would like to work in search and rescue with the dog.

thanks

PS i am ok with drool ;)

Hi dogsrbetrpeopl e,

Just because you're in Canada doesn't mean you'll have bad luck! There are alot of good breeders up there. I would start out with FCI organization, they may have a breeders guild to point you in the right direction. Up in Canada, there's the Canadian Cane Corso Club, http://www.canadiancanecorso.ca/   you might want to try that also. I have a 2 year old Corso that came in from Italy ( Morgan Cane Corso), through California Cane Corso. Here in the states, we have the ICCF www.canecorso. org  that has a breeders guild as well.

FYI- Between the two organizations, ICCF and CCC, there's a lot of back and forth regarding the standard of the breed and which is best. In the Corso's you have Italian lines and American lines, both are beautiful and both will give you want you're looking for, but Americans love their dogs big and that's what you'll get. I've found that the Italian lines are more refined and smaller than the American Breeds.

If you need any help, please feel free to email me at msbrookins@hotmail.com

Good Luck! :)

Thanks msbrookins and pierre!
I have looked into both the ICCF and the ccc for the past year. Neither have yielded very much in the way of breeders unfortunately. I have looked into presas as well, and though they are excellent dogs the cane corso appeals to me a bit more. ;)

Thanks ;D

Hey henrysmomma,

That's really disheartening to hear, regarding the ICCF and the CCC, since we're such a small breed representation . Well, never the less, there's hope. Here are some breeders that I know are very reputable and knowledgeful.

1. California Cane Corso, Bob and Leilani Sauza, www.california canecorso.com, they are the American contact for Morgan Cane Corso in Italy also they have their own breeding program.
2. Burgwald's Kennels, Mike Burgwald, http://www.burgwaldkennel.com/ , he's a wonderful guy and breeder, if Mike cannot help you, he knows enough to point you in the right direction.

Let me know if you need my help, my name is Courtney. ;) :D

Haven't found anything yet.(Well there are some very far away that I could have shipped over, but I would really like to visit the puppies first.) So I continue to search, I am thinking of attending some shows and so forth to get more information. I am now also looking into tibetan mastiffs...the y are similar in temperament, but will not be subject to breed specific legislation, should that ever happen here in B.C.

Thanks

ooh, good question!   :D  I was really into the Mastiff breed, Old English Mastiffs to begin with.  I did tons and tons of research, read every book possible, and one day it just hit me that an OEM did not really match my lifestyle.  I love backpacking, hiking, camping, really vigorous outdoor activities.  And I was at the San Francisco Golden Gate Kennel Club dog show 3 years ago, and saw a 250+lb OEM and (loved him LOVED him) but realized that this guy would just die if I tried to give him a pack and go hiking with him.  It wouldn’t be fair to the dog to leave at home, and not fair to take on the trip..(you know).

So I started looking for other giants that may be more active, which is when I learned about the Tibetan.  And about died that I'd found this breed.  The harsh reality was that it was REALLY hard to find a US breeder (I was living in CA at that time) and like you, I really wanted to visit the pups, knowing a Tibetan was a rare breed, and meet the parents, breeder, etc.   When I began researching further, I realized that Tibetans need a big place to romp, shouldn't be let off leash, ever, (they like to run and don't like to come when called?) and tend to be highly territorial, and like to do the dreaded (BARK)  ;D  To be honest, they seemed like more of a dominant breed than what I would trust myself with (I’m a first time dog owner).

I would actually still consider a Tibetan as my second dog, once I move into a house with a yard, and some experience behind me!  I still think they are amazing and I love, love love to hear about them….because you never do!!!  Which is why I was SO excited to see your posting and wanted to know how it was going!!

Which leads me to the Leo, who is a very passive dog, low dominance, not a great gaurdian, (people are usually intimidated only by their size), and they called it the "Alpine Mastiff" in these books I read.  So I went with an "easier" breed for my first guy....that's the real reason!!

What got you into Tibetans??? And Corso's are amazing as well, I met a Presa Canario in San Fran walking late one night and was almost floored by the sheer size and posture of this amazing animal....it took my breath away.  I was SO excited when the guy told me I could pet it....the dog was seriously, possibly the most amazing dog I've ever been nose to nose with in my life!

Adding a Cane Corso section- I will second that!  My name is Chanda and I live in Atlanta.  I just joined today after finding this site at the pet section of CL.  I have enjoyed the pics and posts. Thank you!
Pictured are my two babies.  Bruno and Maggie (an OEM).  Bruno (Brunosauras) is 4 years old and we have had him since 6 months.  We have been through a lot in the last 4 years but life seems to be looking up lately.  I will post more pics in the next day or so.

I waited 20 years for my first TM and he's so much fun! He's also my first really big paws. Everything they say about them is true, though. They are a challenge and are highly dominat - you do have to be experienced with dogs and strong willed to cope with one. I'm used to shar-pei and the temperament is very similar - the TM's being a bit more placid, but that much larger. They definitely have that inscrutable, dignified oriental temperament! I must admit that I don't have a large yard, but my lad is walked 3 times a day (about an hour in total) and he will not even cock his leg in the yard - they're very clean. He also gets to run in my friend's large yard a couple of times a week (he usually just mooches and says hello to the 'ladies' - he's very taken with her GSD). The rest of the time, though, he's on a flexilead as he's just too curious and independent to be running loose. He's quite well behaved in the house, though he does like to bark to get my attention and it makes your ears ring in a confined space! The Tibetans say a TM should have a bark like a well made copper gong and they certainly do!

Coincidentally, I really have a thing for the Cane Corso too. I looked at them in detail, but must admit that the cropping and docking makes the breed look for me and cropping ears is simply illegal in England. Tail docking is also in the process of being banned. Plus, I have been madly in love with the TM's since I first saw them.

Here's a photo of Flynn taken today - he's a year old on New Years Day.

Hi and welcome to BPO.  I have a little Maggie (she's a Great Dane, so for now little), so I thought I'd say hi.  I'm a little partial to the name.  Your dogs are beautiful!

I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome!  This is the coolest thing.  I stumble across this site at Craig's List and I find myself spending more and more time here (I suppose that could be defined as addiction).  I look forward to spening more time with all of you.

Loved seeing the pics of your CC. I have a newf(father)-CC (mother) mix,,, 8mos old, 73lb. She does not look much like CC as you can see.
