American Mastiff Discussions & Pictures / I'm sold!
« on: January 08, 2006, 11:09:25 pm »
I just need a place to share this and what better place.  Duchess is the first dog I have ever had.  She is a Flying W American Mastiff.  We got her last February when she was 9 weeks old.  She turned 13 months old last week and I have to tell you, she is the most wonderful dog.  Everywhere we go, people rave about how good and kind she is.  She is so gentle with my 2 year old daughter.  She is smart, loving, healthy and just the best.  I can tell you I am so in love with this dog, I'll always have one, for the rest of my life!  I love my American Mastiff and I love my Big Paws buddy!

American Mastiffs are the best.  My Duchess turned 1 in December and she is the most incredible dog.  Everyone comments on how beautiful and well behaved she is.  Congrats and enjoy.

We ended up going with Nutro Natural Choice for Large Breed Puppies and have been very happy with it!  Duchess likes it and she looks great.  Once she hits 2 years old and we switch to Adult food, we will probably consider Diamond again.

Why do these OEM vs AM discussions have to get so ugly.  It makes me mad.  I have a one year old American Mastiff female from Flying W Farms.  The people who get AMs are not interested in registering their dogs.  Who CARES if the AKC does not "recognze" my dog!  We were looking for a great companion and family pet.  Duchess, has fufilled that for us, and BTW she DOES NOT drool, just as promised.  I think either breed is just great for some of the same reasons and some different reasons.  Its a personal preferece.  Mark my word, you will NOT be dissapointed in an American Mastiff as long as you go to one of the Flying W Farm recognized breeders.

Hey, do you guys know anything about DIAMOND brand dog foods?  Most of the feed store in my area carry it.  It sounds like it has all good ingredients but it is so inexpensive.  Not sure if there is a catch or if it is just not well known. ???

Hey all.  I have to speak up too.  My baby, Duchess is a Flying W American Mastiff and she is WONDERFUL.  And I do not consider her a mutt.  She is a pure breed American Mastiff.  She may not be recognized by the AKC, but maybe, someday, they will.  All in all, Flying W has done a wonderful job developing this breed.  They are the best! ;D

O hear ya, and I don't blame you one bit!  I would also hate to support a company that is inhumane and irresponsible.

I have heard about the acusations against Iams.  If they are true, it is heartbreaking.  However, I have found statements responding to the claims as false.  See below.  Who knows what to believe!

thank so much all of you.  Seems from what I've heard and read, the 2 top choices are Eagle Pack and Nutro.  I'll give them a try and see if she'll eat it.   ;D

Hello!  I have a 6 month old American Mastiff puppy, Duchess, who is currently about 65 lbs and will top out between 120 and 180.  I am having a HECK of a time figuring out what to feed her.  The breeder used to recommend Diamond but now she recommends Iams.  I did try Diamond but Duchess does not eat it too well.  SHe seems to like the Iams but I am not impressed with the ingredients on the bag.  Can you guys tell me what you recommend.  I'll stick with the Iams if you think its OK.  Or let me know if you think there is something better (but not much more expensive).  Thanks.
