My pup used to do that as well, but also just pull in general.
The best thing to do is EVERYTIME he pulls or tries to grab his leash stop, say your 'bad' word... mine is UH, UH and as soon as he is doing what you want say "good boy" and off you go.  Repeat this as many times as it takes, and trust me... it will take patience.
I am also a HUGE fan of the Gentle Leader... it's so much better then the pinch collar.

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Barking at people...aggressive?
« on: December 19, 2005, 12:24:05 pm »
I haven't posted here in a while. I had rescued a puppy when he was 9 weeks old back in Feb. In Sept. his sister was surrendered to the shelter because she ate the owners couch.  My husband and I couldn't leave her there so we took her in.  She's the best... definetly a chewer, but funny none the less.  They get along great and she's great with people in my house, but when we are outside she barks at everyone!!! Her tail is wagging but it sounds so vicious.  Anyway, it's tough to desensitize her to that since I can't really ask strangers to work with me, and I don't know how aggressive she is being.

None the less... here are some updated pictures of my babies that turn 1 tomorrow! By the way... if you guys have any thoughts on what breed they might be... let me know.

Akita Discussions / What do you guys think?

I rescued my baby a little over 2 months ago and we love him to pieces.  I was told he is an Akita/Border Collie mix, but I just don't know.  I would like to get your opinion on this little guy.  A lot of people ask us if he is a pitbull, but I have done a live side by side comparison and there is no way.  His vet said he has some lab in him... Thoughts?

I'm so sorry to hear that.  I live in Boston and don't know what kind of help I could be, but if you need anything or if I hear anything from this area, I'll be sure to let you know.
Good luck.

Hello. We live in Cambridge, Massachusetts and have been owned by an Akita/Border Collie mix for almost 6 weeks!!! He is our fist dog (we're newlyweds) and could not be happier. Bailey is the best thing that could have happened to us. He brings a smile to our faces at least 1,000 times a day. :) Bailey is 16 weeks old.

Bernese Mountain Dog Pictures / Re: Snow Pictures anyone?

Me too, I just haven't gotten mine developed. I've been taking my camera to the park everyday. I will post some when I get them back, hopefully this weekend.
Bailey LOVES the snow too!!! Now that the snow is melted here in Boston, I don't know what he's going to do. His pee and poo spot have disappeared. :o

::)Hey there. I'm a new owner of a 15 week old Akita/Border Collie mix puppy. He is great! I'm a first time dog owner, but have him in puppy school and he is being socialized as much as possible.  We interact with other dogs at least once a day. We live in the city, so interacting with kids, people and dogs is super easy.
Any advice and chat is appreciated.
