Border Collie Discussions & Pictures / Re: Chicago Dogs

Wow, this is so sad!  I have a collie (Leo) and yeah, he likes to talk.  Often.  And about lots of things.  Sometimes I'll bark right along with him, we have a good time.  But then when we say "Enough" he'll stop.  He loves to groan and make lots of noises but that's just being him.  I'd never want to take that away from him.  He likes to talk!

I think it's really stupid when people assume you need a large house and yard for dogs.  I mean, come on.  They'll just want to occupy the same three feet you are in anyway!  phooey on them!

Solo is SUCH a sweetheart.  The older he gets the sweeter he gets.  And he is still quite a trooper on our hikes.  The last one we took - was 1.5 mile to get to the end.  We stopped for a while to take pictures and rest.  Then on the way back, every place we had rested - Solo *insisted* we stop and rest again lol.  He's pacing around right now because it's 7:30pm and he hasn't had dinner yet LOL.  (Sean is on site repairing a computer and we're all waiting for him to come home to eat dinner together)

Aloha!  Welcome to the board!  I'm a displaced Hawaiian - can I come visit? lol

I never get the "does he bite".  :(  Now I feel all left out and stuff lol.  I actually have the opposite situation and have told children to always ask first because not all dogs are safe with them.  So maybe you guys should blame me for the "does he bite?" q's ha ha  (I actually tell them "ask if it's ok to pet their dog first". Kids, they never listen ;) )

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Flank Sucking Dobe

Oh wow, I just looked it up because I didn't know what it was either.  I did have one episode with one of my dogs with compulsive behavior.  It was scary.  Reducing stress seemed to be the most helpful thing (mostly environmental stress).  I do think that for my boy if things got that stressful for him again he would most likely revert to that coping compulsion.  So we strive to keep that particular trigger out of our home.  I would suggest looking to that and perhaps reading some books on behavior.  I found for myself that the book "Jelly Bean vs Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde" by CW Meisterfeld to be enoromously helpful in understand dog behavior / cause and effect.  Good luck with your Dobe.

How old is your puppy?  I remember potty training my pups and it was go outside (at night) every two hours.  Then a couple weeks later, three hours, etc.  They're just babies and can't hold it for a long time.

As far as crying - where is her crate?  You might have better luck if you put the crate in your room.

I'm sure there will be others along with more ideas.  Congrats on your new baby!

I have a blade like this expect mine is looped into four circles with a handle.  And YES volumes of undercoat comes out with this tool.  I use it sometimes when we hike in the forest.  It makes it look like a small animal exploded by the time we leave.  lol

Oooo, I think I need a rake!

14
lol, who knows!  I just might have one here but don't call it that lol.  Seriously, I have a bag of "tools".  But I don't know if I have a "rake" or not.  *ashamed*

Ok, I'll have to finally admit it.  I don't know what a "rake" is!  Can someone post a picture?
