Hello

Just wanted to update everyone, I took Remington (Remy) to the vet today to be weighed, at 7 months he now weighs, 78.3 pounds, so I guess he must be eating enough.. lol

Thanks everyone for all the help, guess he knows how much he needs to eat.. ;)

Thanks again,

Aimee

Thanks so much for the input, it does help, I have 2 dogs, the 2 year old is on a diet, I got her from a rescue, and she was WAY overweight, anyway, I have to feed them seperate, or I probably won't watch so closely what my 7 month old eats, I would just have food out for him, all the time. anyway, he's not skinny at all, so him not eating as much is not likely a problem.  He has a bulky build, not fat, but he's a big boy, I'm going to take him to the clinic probably on Tuesday and weigh him.

Anyway, thanks again for the help

My 7 month old Golden, itsn't eating like he used to, he used to eat 6 cups of food a day, now I have a hard time getting to eat half that much, he acts fine, plays goes to the bathroom normal, but it concerns me that he doesn't want to eat much, I've put canned food in his dry food, which works a couple times and then the just looks at it, also I've put that gravey stuff that Iams makes in it, he liked it the first couple of times I put it in his food, then he just didn't seem interested.
Is this normal???
I want him to eat, ya know,,,  How much should he be eating now??  Is it a growth thing, he doesn't need as much??  Today maybe he ate 3 cups of food, again he acts fine, but I'm so used to him eating like a hog, and growing like a weed, he is a large pup for his age and will according to my vet probably weigh 100 pounds when hes grown.

Okay, I'll shut up, but would like any thoughts on this

Thank you so much,   Aimee

She's been taking the 3V caps for over 2 months now, I haven't seen any improvement with them.  Someone told me to add a tablespoon of cooking oil to her dog food, any thoughts on this??

Thanks

Hi All

I'm wondering what diet you all feed your Goldens, I have a 2 year old I got from a rescue in May. She was 122 pounds when I got her so she went on a diet, I put her on the "Nutro Weight Management" dog food, she's down to about 100 pounds now. But she's getting flakey skin and her coat looks dull.  Any better diets or supplements I could put her on. I also give her two 3V cap's a day.

Thanks for any help

Golden Retriever Discussions / The crate
« on: October 06, 2006, 10:40:15 am »

Just wanted to let you know, my pup did fine in the crate, seemed almost happy in there with his kong.  I had to do some shopping today and put him in again, so thanks for the help,
Probably harder for me than Remy for him to be in the crate.  We'll both get used to it.

Thanks again,

Aimee

My 6 month old Golden has now started chewing the wall of my bathroom where he usually sleeps. I bought him a crate today, but can NOT tell you how much I don't want to put him in it.  He is gonna be scared in it all night.  Guess I just want prayers for him, I have no other choice, I can't have him chewing the dry wall in the house.
Any thoughts would be good

Thanks,   Aimee

Thanks for the help, I think I will try a new dish for him.
He's such a sweetheart, and I love him so much, I worry about everything.  I haven't been this much in love with a dog since the one I lost last year. Kind of scares me, do any of you feel this way, if I love him so much I something bad will happen..  Sorry, it just scares me.  He's such a little angel, sometimes I can't believe I've now had 2 of the most wonderful dogs I could ever imagine.

Thanks again for all the help

God Bless,   Aimee

Golden Retriever Discussions / Hand Feeding

HI

I have a 17 week old Golden, he is a sweetheart, but lately he seems to only want to eat his food out of my hand..
It started with him wanting some of his food on the floor, seemed to get him started, then he would eat out of his dish. I would sometimes give him some out of my hand. Today, he only wants to eat his dog food out of my hand. This is really strange to me, any thoughts??  Will he out grow this. is it a really bad thing??  I have read that it can be good to have your scent on their food? But of course I can't feed him only with my hand forever.
Hope you don't all think I'm crazy, this has never happened before and I've had dogs for most of my life.

Thanks for any thoughts or help

Thanks he is precious, one of the sweetest pups I've ever had.  your Belladonna is really pretty too.
Thanks so much for your reply. I don't remember being happier, I never had Goldens before, but they seem to be special dogs..  I needed that, lost my Chow mix last year, he was my biggest love.

Thank you again

My new puppy Remington, I call him Remy. he's 3 and a half months old now and as sweet as he can be.
I got him from the local Golden retriever rescue. I had got a 2 year old female a month earlier. They are the best of friends now, she needed to loose weight and he is really helping with that. I couldn't be happier with my new Goldens, this all started in May. seems like they've been here forever.
Here's a picture of Remy

Hi All

I've had my Golden 3 weeks today, she is 2 years old and was pretty much ignored by her former owners. I'm starting to see  a different girl now that she's been here 3 weeks, she's starting to play and she's starting to chew like a pup, she really worked out on my throw rug tonight..  I put bitter apple on it to stop her chewing..  I'm wondering if this is normal at 2 years old to be chewing or if she's acting like a puppy because she was never able to before??
Also, I'm thinking of getting a male Golden pup this summer maybe July for her to play with and wonder what you all think of that idea??  I guess in her last home she had a lab to play with.

Anyway thanks for any help or advice I've never had a Golden before and would be grateful for any help

I just got my first Golden, from the local Golden retriever rescue. She is 2 years old, seems very sweet, she is way over weight, needs to lose at least 30 pounds.
Just wondered if any of you have any pointers on this breed, things to look for, things that will make her life better, and good ways to help her lose this weight.
So far she hasn't bothered my cat's much, just wants to smell them. ;-)  Of course they don't know that, but I think they will be friends soon.

Anyway, thanks for any thoughts

Aimee
