Old English Mastiff Discussions / Re: My Mastiff puppy acts scared?
« on: December 26, 2005, 07:52:28 pm »
We had the same problem with our Cane Corso, Bruno (we got him at 6 months) and our OEM (we go her at 3 years through Mastiff Rescue- from a great lady that took wonderful care of Maggie- so I don't belive there was mistreatment).
We went on about our day....loved and joined in when they were playful and let them be when they were timid but  took notice of the activity in the house (loud noises, high energy, etc.)and lowered such activity  but really acted as if nothing was going on.  We are parrot people by nature and dogs were rather new in our lives at the time... this works very well for timid or screaming birds.  Turns out it works for our dogs, too.  We still have those moments from time to time but it passes in seconds and all is normal again.  I think - Just give the puppy time to find out that it is "safe" and I think things will work out well.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: READ BEFORE YOU TRAVEL!!!

Beware and ask more questions beyond price...just a heads up.  Most US airlines will not accept any animals if the temperature will be below 35F or above 80F (my numbers may be off as I am going from memory- so call and ask).  I believe that applies to the departing city, layover as well as the arrival city.  From Mexico to Canada, i suppose you will hit both limits.
Delta told me they will ground the "cargo", say you arrive at your layover city and the temperature has changed in the arrival city since departure.  Your puppies are stuck and you keep going.  I also experienced that you buy the ticket based on a weather forecast and the temps change...too bad.  the crate won't be accepted.  I had to ship a friend's 120lb dog several times between CO and CA and we ran into all kinds of crazy stuff.

I also hate to say- part of the reason they are making it so difficult US law passed that the FED Gov requires all animal deaths to be reported....(God forbid that get out!)  At least that is what I have read.  If you are flying a us based or affilliated airline, I suppose they would fall under this law.
Best of luck on the ride!

I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome!  This is the coolest thing.  I stumble across this site at Craig's List and I find myself spending more and more time here (I suppose that could be defined as addiction).  I look forward to spening more time with all of you.

They are adorable!  I wish we could add a pyr to our zoo....but living in HOTlanta - they would look a little silly bare skinned in the summer.

Thanks for sharing

Adding a Cane Corso section- I will second that!  My name is Chanda and I live in Atlanta.  I just joined today after finding this site at the pet section of CL.  I have enjoyed the pics and posts. Thank you!
Pictured are my two babies.  Bruno and Maggie (an OEM).  Bruno (Brunosauras) is 4 years old and we have had him since 6 months.  We have been through a lot in the last 4 years but life seems to be looking up lately.  I will post more pics in the next day or so.
