Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / Re: Pyr needs help in Atlanta

Hi, all!

I am soooo sorry for not checking in about this baby. I saw him again this morning for the first time in a long time. I emailed APR and was prepared to take him up there, but he disappeared. My coworker and I saw him again this morning.

I think he is being "taken care of" by someone in the neighborhood - but I don't know to what extent. Charlie, if you are interested in getting this sweet boy's location, PM me or email me at jessicanparker@gmail.com

Again, I'm so sorry for not giving an update sooner. Today was the first time I've seen him since then.

Thanks so much for all the info! I'm going to call/email APR and see if they can help, then I'll call/email chapters of the GPCA. We'll get him taken care of soon!

Sadly, I live in a neighborhood where people dump unwanted animals. I've helped two other dogs in my neighborhood - a puppy with the worst mange I have ever seen and a sweet Chow mix that was hit by a car. I hate that people do this to their pets. It really hurts me to see homeless animals...so I try to do what I can to make the situation better.

I'll be sure to post updates when I can. I feel so bad for this baby. We've got a kitty, a Weimie and a Dane at home and our house is tiny. I wish we could keep him. I think my hubby would move out if I tried to sneak this pup in the house.

I know where this guy's family used to live and it looks like they just took off. The dogs have been dragging trash around and there are huge piles of it behind the house. I'm going to call some other rescues in the morning to see if anyone can take him.

Here are some pics. Sorry the quality isn't so great.  :-\ Does anyone have valid contact info for the Atlanta Pyr Rescue? I tried sending an email and it bounced back.

Hey, ya'll!

I haven't posted in a while and I'm so sorry for that.  :-\

Anyhow, there is a Pyr wandering loose in my neighborhood that someone has abandoned. His owners moved and left him here with his buddy, a Chow-Chow. I believe someone has taken in the Chow, but I don't know what to do about the Pyr. I'm going to try and keep him until someone can give him a permanent home or a good foster home. He's all matted up and he's scavenging for food. I'd LOVE to keep him, but hubby says our house is full.  :( I'll try to get some photos up shortly. I'm not sure if he's a he or a she or anything.

Please let me know if anyone can help us. Thank you, BPOers!!

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Re: Danes and sensitive skin

I had a long talk with the vet about Sky and mentioned Benadryl for occaisional treatment. They were supposed to give my husband the dosage and then decided not too because they said it would be too expensive to give him Benadryl (they were pushing their meds)!! They costs would have been well over $400 since they wanted to give us the antibiotics, antimflammator ies, a special shampoo (which we arleady have), and a topical ointment. His skin sounds a lot like Bella's - you can see them a bit on the white fur, but not at all on the black fur. I really feel like they were tryin' to rip me off and give my baby meds he doesn't need.

Thanks for the info Bella's mom  :)

Me again  :)

Skuy's at the vet and they are wanting to do a skin test on him. When we adopted him, we were told that he had some allergy tests done and he's allergic to fleas and grass. We don't know what meds to put him on and he hates pills, so we give him flea preventive and keep him out of the grass as much as we can. He still gets bumps and little scabbies on him coat. They clear up A LOT in the colder months, but never really looks bad. They also want him on anti-inflammatories and antibiotics, which seems a little much to me as he doesn't have a fever, open wounds, swelling, etc. You can't even see his skin blemishes unless you're petting him and really looking for them.

I'm one that doesn't like to constantly medicate my dogs unless it's really needed (like when he had a toe removed). Does this sound right, or am I right in being a bit alarmed?

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Heartgard Price match....help!

Hello, everyone!

I know I haven't posted on here in forever, but I read BPO like a junkie every day and I just know y'all can help me. It's time for Sky, the super Dane, to get his Heartgard chews. My vet does price matching and I was wondering if someone knows of a site that sells Heartgard Plus for under $30/box.

The best I can find is $27.95/6 months @ www.bridgesons .com. Thanks, everyone!

Jessica, Skuy, and Ivy  ;D

Had to post this one. One Harl and one brindle (per the ad). Brother & sister  pups. Super cute babies being given away b/c owner is moving. Ad says 11mos, but that's all wrong. These would be the tiniest 11mo old Danes ever. Here's the link.

Here are the pups!

Too cute! I hope he finds a home, too :)

I am totally in love! Her name is Zahra and she's 14 months old. I can't take her (house is full) but, wow! She's listed as urgent...just wanted to share!

Hi, Everyone!

Apparently, I am a magnet for sweet stray babies. Last night, a pit followed our weim inside. We know who he belongs to and sent him home. Maybe he'll stay there this time ;)This morning, the sweetest fella got in my fence! He's a shepard/chow mix (perhaps) and he is soooooo sweet! He broke off the chain that he was tethered to and found me. I've had him in the front yard today just checking him out. He seems totally healthy. He's got no identification . I've posted in a couple of other places and called some rescues...they are all full. I'd like to foster him but hubby's not interested (and I am soooo pissed about that). Can someone tell me what else I can do? BPOers are all incredible...y ou've gotta have some ideas. I'm really broken up about this. He's awesome and gets along with my other two just fine. Please help!

Jessica

I think they are a pair of boy pups. I live just over 100 miles from where the family is (I mapped it out last night)and I wish I could take them. Newfs are so awesome! I, too, feel bad for the kids in the family. All it takes is some time, love, and attention and those pups will be super wonderful (not that they aren't already!)!

I need a bigger house...and a hubby that will say yes to newfies!! ;D
