We are a very small animal shelter trying to win a shelter makeover from zootoo.com. We're competing against much larger shelters and we need all the help we can get!

You can help by registering for FREE here:
http://www.zootoo.com/register/referrer/frosty73
For the shelter you support, type zip code 62633 and choose "Pets Without Parents" from the dropdown list.

If you've never heard of zootoo.com, you're in for a treat! It's a website for animal lovers that lets you post pictures of your pet, review pet products you love or hate, and discuss animal news. They don't spam or share your email.

Thanks so much for your help!

Perhaps Einstein would like a kitty...Take him to your local shelter & have him pick one out! ;D If he enjoys them I bet he'd be very happy! :)

Wow.  If I were to take a Ciant Schnauzer to pick out a kitty at the shelter, it would be for his lunch!  It's amazin' how different the breeds of dogs can be.
(Sorry, the letter "jee" is not workin' on my computer)

Big Dogs with Jobs / Re: dumb question about confirmation and showing

Hey, no reason to feel guilty about not showing!

The important thing is, give your dogs a good, loving home.  Do you think Chester is going to feel less worthwhile because he isn't a CH? :)

Lots and lots of people start showing dogs and give up midway through.  You just saved yourself the anguish of the first half.   ;)

Hi Annabelle,
I'm new to this Big Paws thing too; our GS is only 3 months old.  Repeat after me, "The crate is my best friend"!!!

I can't believe I ever tried to housetrain dogs without a crate!  Agh!

Keep track of how fast your girlie grows because you just won't believe it.  She'll be putting paws on the counter by the time she's 3 months.  And the barking quickly gets deeper and more threatening-sounding, so try to teach her the command "quiet."  (At least, that's what I'm working on with Atlas right now!)

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Adorable papillion!

We had our mini schnauzer's teeth cleaned at the vet, he was an old guy but did fine.  Minis are prone to nasty tartar buildup and I can't imagine picking clean their teeth, but I do try to brush several times a week now.

Discussions & Information on Grooming / Re: Dry flakey skin...

That is so weird, I was going to ask for advice about dry flaky skin also... and I feed Canidae also...???

My mini schnauzer has had dry flaky skin all his 12 years, but now my Giant puppy is getting it, too.   :(  I'm in the process of switching them from Nutro to Canidae, and in spite of the dandruff, I get lots of compliments on how shiny their coats both are.  But I think I'll try giving them fish oil pills (since I bought a bunch for myself and never used them!)

I grew up on a dairy goat farm...
but your goats are just too cute!
I don't have any advice on herding/guarding, though.

Ladybug is just TOO cute!  What a sweet mini!

I, too, have a mini (black) and a Giant.  Except my Giant is only a head bigger than my mini, since the Giant is only 3 months old!

Wow, Dazy sure looks like a pampered pooch!

I hate to ask, having just come into this group... why are you grieving?

Hi all,
I'm getting my Giant Schnauzer puppy around the end of June... so I've been waiting impatiently... we currently have a mini schnauzer, 12 yrs. old.   I will send lots of pics when we finally get the puppy!
