Great Dane Discussions / Re: Just to let you know up front!

I actually know this woman (we live in the same state) and I'm really disappointed in her.  I know for a fact that absolutely no health testing was done on those animals and Titan is well under two years old to boot.

I'm really frustrated at seeing this because she got her feelings hurt on another board and I tried talking to a few people off the board.  I tried telling them that I felt she had good intentions and she said that she wasn't going to breed her dogs.  Then this happens and it's like a slap in the face!

She's asked others opinions before on her dogs and she has been flat out told not to breed them.  Like I said, I'm really frustrated!

I am not a breeder and I am not looking for any danes. I had a bad experience with another website and I just wanted to make it clear up front that I am not a breeder. I have never bred any dogs or helped anyone else breed dogs.

This statement is no longer true.  Jade was bred to Titan on purpose, not an oops.  I'm incredibly disappointed.  Especially since no health tests were done prior.

Heffner is sooooooooooooo much happier swimming with his life vest on!  I bought it from Ruff Wear http://www.ruffwear.com/K-9-Float-Coat-trade?sc=2&category=694 and it totally supports his weight!  I'm definitely going to be getting one for Taylor.

I was just totally dumbfounded that anyone would think that a cat would have a good time in the hot sun at a lake!  Not to mention there are usually a few dogs running around there and I would think that would be really unpleasant for the poor kitty.  It was just really weird!

Great Dane Pictures / PIcnic at Hagg Lake!

Today we took the dogs out to Hagg Lake for a picnic with some of my family!  I was a little doubtfull of the weather since it had rained at the house before we left, but I figured that the dogs would put up with it and they'd definitely burn off some energy.  So we went and the weather turned out to be really nice!  And once again I got sun burned even though I was wearing a lot of sun block.

Heffner had a grand ole time playing with my dad out in the lake!  My dad swam waaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaay out and we were tossing toys for Heffner to retrieve and he just decided that my dad would be more fun to go after.  My dad kept ducking under the surface and popping up somewhere else.  It was hilarious to see the totally confused look on Heffner's face!!  After about 5 min. of that he finally swam back in to shore.

Taylor even actually did some serious swimming, and I didn't have to coax her.  She just sort of started copying Heffner and going after the toys.  On the down side she's picked up his wonderful habit of doing those big leaps right before he starts swimming!  There was about a half hour time period where she just kept on swimming around (we were there for almost six hours)!

FINALLY they started getting tired and we put up a tarp for them to lay down under and get cooled off out of the sun.  Thankfully they totally passed out because someone had the brilliant idea to bring their CAT to the lake! That's right, a freaking cat! I felt really bad for the cat (actually more of a kitten).  It was black and the owners were basking out in the sun with it. :? Then they had the brilliant idea to take it in the lake and see if it liked the water. Needless to say, the cat did NOT like the water.

Anyhow, here's some pictures!

Great Dane Pictures / Beach Trip!!
« on: July 20, 2007, 10:07:20 am »
Well, I haven't been active really at all on this forum since I first signed up way back in, I think, December.  I thought that it was about time to rectify that!  Since I've signed up we have taken on a second dane from Heffner's breeder.  We're fostering her until we get our forever puppy (although I'm totally in love with Taylor!) next summer at some point.  Dane #2 is Taylor.  She's a 7 month old mantle.  I'm in the process of training her so that I can start handling her in the conformation ring next month.  She's quite the doll and has been the best budy for Heffner.

We went to the beach today with a few people from our dane group (www.pdxdanes.o rg).  While the weather wasn't absolutely perfect (overcast and a little rainy at times), it was still pleasant and the dogs DEFINITELY had a blast!!! They were running all over the place! You know you have some serious multiple dane syndrome going on when you have four families and 9 danes! I was very excited because this was Taylor's very first beach trip! I do have to warn you that there are quite a few pics, but I did seriously weed them out. I took 97 pictures and these are the select "few" that I uploaded. ;D I also have to apologize for some of the photo quality. I don't know why some of the pictures turned out so uncrisp!

Oh Heffner seems like a real character.  Those pics are wonderful.

I'm glad to see that Jack isn't the only Daddy's Boy.  And what was it that he destroyed in that one pic?

It was a feather pillow that I had been careless enough to leave in his area.  I was on our treadmill and he was upset that he was locked away from me (he will actually try to run with me on the treadmill if I let him!) and threw a little tantrum!  It was pretty funny though!!

Yay, someone local!!  I actually wasn't thinking when I posted that I should put down the date.  The dane romp at Hazedale is going to be on the 31st.  We're totally going to be there and there are at least two other regulars that show up as well.  Most likely there will be 5 other danes.

Hi everyone!  I just found this site because it was mentioned in a members Dogster stats. ;D  Right now I've only got my one boston merle great dane, Heffner.  I'm hoping to add another one in a few years once my husband adjusts to the whole size thing! :D  We're on vacation in Beverly Hills for Christmas right now, so I don't have access to all my many files of pictures, but he does have a Dogster site! ;D  http://www.dogster.com/pet_page.php?j=t&i=300040

We live in Hillsboro, OR and would absolutely LOVE to meet up with some fellow BPOers for some fun big dog rompin'!
