It could be and hopefully is. But forgot to say it is hard if you touch it.
Would a fatty lump be hard to the touch ?

I am very concerned as I lost my previous dog very quickly once a lump appeared.  It seemed the lump was not there one day and then a few days later it just appeared.

Sorry haven't been around for a while. Hope all are well.

Ollie is now 3 (BMD). I have discovered a lump near to his rib cage left hand side under the skin about the size of half a tennis ball.  He is well at the moment eating and full of beans when getting ready for his morning walk.  He did have sickness 2 weeks ago but the vet said to starve him for 24 hours and see how he went before taking him in he stresses at the vets.  He recovered well and by Sunday was back to his normal self.  He also has a small lump under the skin near to his left armpit.

He is off to see the vet Saturday but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas I know it is impossible to diagnose over the internet., but I am a little worried.

Have to agree with SC Trojans on this one, Ollie has a lot of energy lately he is now turned 21/2 I think it is the apple cider vinegar. But I would never jog with him, he loves to walk now and can go for quite long distances at his pace however not ours we find after about 1/2 hour we are slowing to his pace rather than he to ours.
I would also take plenty of water with you for him to drink along the way.
I know in the UK if you are thinking of carting with your Berner it is recommended 18 months plus and hip and elbow scores done before they will allow you to do it seriously they don't mind your'e Berner having a try but then it is up to you to get the scores done if you want to continue.
Enjoy your hikes I know Ollie loves to explore new places.

Yes, all the dogs seem to get distracted VERY easily!  Tonight is all about teaching them to behave when someone comes to the house and knocks on the door...let just say, Cooper will be doing a lot of barking tonight.  :P

I haven't attempted going into Petco again recently.  I think I will put it off until he is done with his classes and then see how everything goes.

Ollie is a beautiful berner.  How big is he?  I love your picture of him at the beach! ;D

Thankyou Ollie is 29 inches tall and his weight fluctuates between 60-62 kg.
His Dad is a large dog also. He will be 2 this month.
Cooper is also lovely but I am so biased towards Berners I love all dogs but they just do something to me.

He will in time get over it. Ollie has laminate flooring all the way through our house downstairs and trimming the fur between his paws helps him a lot, I know when they need doing as he walks more warily on the flooring.
I do Ollies with the baby scissors they are rounded on the ends as he has sensitive paws and that way I don;t fear I am going to nick the pads, also brush the fur forwards it really helps also lots of tripe sticks.
Good luck with the classes they get easily distracted don't they ? :)

Great advice from SC Trojans I have not thought about letting Ollie cart, I knew you needed hip and elbow scores to breed or should have them done although I am sure there are the odd few that don't have this done but still breed.
Neither of which Ollie has or will have done as he is neutered. I wish you luck with it all and if you go ahead would love to see some pics.

Great advice from people. I must agree about the relevant health tests being done.
Not all breeders have loads of information on their site but they should respond well when e-mailed or phoned and easily answer any questions you may have.
We often went to visit Ollies breeder and met all her dogs all of which are into their early teens. Obviously because all health tests are done doesn't mean you will not encounter health problems with your dog they are susceptible to a lot of health issues, but at least if you have met many of their dogs and both Parents you get a good idea of the genetic stability of their animals.
I would also ask whether if for any reason you had to return the dog the breeder would happily take it back ours does and it is written into our contract,if she is unable to rehome she keeps them and they live their life with her and her mad crew.
Good luck in your search.

Ollie has one too,now 19 months old.
His wasn't corrected at neutering and the Vet wasn't unduly worried as it is quite soft and can be pushed in,he said he would only consider surgery if it was to bother him at any point in his life.

My Berner is now nearly 11 months old and is very laid back social with all dogs and lives with our cat very easily the cat has the upper hand.He can be aloof to strangers as long as he is allowed to approach them rather than the other way around he is fine sometimes he will make Friends others he will sniff and walk away from.If they have a dog with them he will be their Friend for life.Where we walk we meet all sorts of people with different size dogs and no-one minds Ollie playing with their dogs however small as he is very gentle,he has also made Friends with an Airedale who is aggressive to other  males and has to stay on the leash his owner was amazed.
I must say he has chewed quite a bit and was very mouthy until a few weeks ago and harder to house train than my previous dog but on the whole a very easy puppy and is content to have his walk then laze around.Remembe r you must apply the 5 minutes to their age in months for at least 18 months as their joints are very sensitive as far as exercise goes.
Good luck with your search try to meet both parents we did and he is turning out to have their wonderful temperament.

I have a male berner 10 months and I think he weighs around 10 stone. He weighed 9 stone 4lb at 9 months old there skeletal frame should be about its maximum at 1 yr old but you should still be careful of their joints till about 2 yrs oldLooking in my berner book and they say it is difficult to determine their weight  as a male is bottom of the size range and could possibly weigh the same or less than his Sister who is top of the size range. Most berners weight falls between 75 to 110 pounds. I think a lot of the time it comes down to the Parents and whether they are big stock I have seen some Female berners who aren't much bigger than a Collie.I am expecting Ollie to of hopefully gained his weight and needs to muscle up but someone I was speaking to says his male weighs 12 stone.
she will be quite big and powerful but not as big as the Leonbergers or St.Bernards.Wo uld love to see some pics.

Hi and welcome to the boards,my Berner pup who we have had since 8 weeks old was the same,we have a gate acorss our kitchen we would put him in there he could see us but not interact,he is a mouthy breed especially when excited, but has learnt to stop grabbing our arms and hands.
When we came down in the mornings was the worse and we taught him get a toy and would pick somthing up and give it to him and play tug for a minute or two fuss him then go about our busisness it has worked occassionally he gets a bit excited and forgets himself, but my arms are not covered in bruises so much now and at nearly 10 months is a lot better.Keep persevering your pup will get there time and patience is the key and you will see the light at the end of the tunnel.

SC trojans & Dahlie Juju have made some excellent points I really hope you read them and take note of them and decide not to breed from your girl.

I am sorry but another negative input here I also own a Berner from a reputable Breeder both parents health tested and hip and elbow scored and both parents met. They can be a hard breed in as much as they take longer to grow up and I did plenty of research and am still learning loads about the breed. Also some serious health issues.
He is a gorgeous boy,but he was neutered at 6 months as we did not want him for showing or breeding personally I do not know anything about it,and if at anytime I did want to venture down that road  I would ask my Breeder to give me as much help as possible as she has been breeding for many years.I don't think you should breed till she has turned 2 and although as you say pups are going to Friends and Family that does not make it ok not to have the relevant health tests done, those of us that bought with the tests done know we could still encounter many of the problems this dog suffers from and it will be end up with losing them at an early age and having to deal with some heartbreaking situations possibly but to a point we are prepared.
At the end of the day you will make your own decisions but I do hope you will not take them lightly and give  the input you have been given some serious thought before making your final decision.Wishi ng you well whatever you do and not intended as a personal attack just a lover of the breed and I personally wish more thought was given to breeding any breed before people venture into it.
May save so many dogs ending up in rescue.
