Games & Jokes / Re: Towns Mayor, A Dog, Dies At 12

HA HA!!! You are so right!

Thanks, I'll forward the email on to them with crossed fingers.

I am very close to Wellsboro but with my  crew already here and them being so full of energy, I just don't dare. Then I've got the grandkids living here again, and my lil granddaughter just does not understand "leave them alone". So baby gates are up all over the house to protect the pups. I'm afraid it would make it very difficult for a dog with a sight issue to be here:(

Hello,
I was contacted by someone who works at the Pennsylvania SPCA Wellsboro Branch. She is looking for anyone willing to take Shanook, a 7-year-old Chocolate Lab. He is very beautiful and sweet and gets along with all other animals. Unfortunately, he is going blind in both eyes. He can still see shadows. The shelter will be closing and the branch manager has left, so the animals are being put down much faster than usual. This guy doesn't have much hope unless a rescue can take him and try to find him a good home. He is up to date on shots and house trained. This woman is willing to help with transport, transport fees, neuter fees, and she will pay the adoption fee.

Thanks everybody, you have been most helpful. I am not worried (yet) about her hurting herself. She seems to be in "protect" mode when the storms hit. Door to door, window to window panting and drooling with the excessive barking. I just don't want it to get bad enough that she gets to the point of freaking out and hurt herself or one of the other dogs. Maybe I should put her leash on her to try and stop her pacing?

Thanks. I am not against medication IF all else fails. I'm hoping by not making an issue, and the other dogs not getting all upset, she will settle down. I just wanted to be sure I was doing everything I could be doing.

Rella has made great progress in her "fear" and was steadly working toward going back to her easy going self. Now we have THUNDER! She is terrified, barking, growling, drooling and pacing the house. The other dogs look at her as if she has gone mad, lol. So far I have just used the "calming voice" telling her to hush (like that worked ::)) and ignoring the behaviour....s ince this is not working I thought I'd ask what anybody else has done for the dog who just hates the boomer season. I do leave her crate open so she can get into it but so far she has acted like she wants no part of it while the storm is ongoing and I would hate to crate her and have her spazz out and hurt herself.

She is now 15 months old. Ideas?

Transporting & Traveling With Dogs / Re: We're going camping!!! =D

Don't forget to pack emergency medical supplies! You never know when a bee sting or a nasty cut can happen. Hope they take up un-necessary space, but better safe than sorry:)

Hire a driver and let them drive the car, you pay wages & return trip fare. Usually is much cheaper than having the car shipped.

All 4 of mine love the crates! I no longer put them into them, but when they want downtime, they use their crates.
Gives them a safe place that belongs only to them.

Can't tell you about Petco. I can tell you about "retail". I started as a cashier when I was 17, by the time I was 21 I had my own store.

Very easy to move up through the ranks if you apply yourself.

Good luck!

Heaven's Doggy Door

My best friend closed his eyes last night,
As his head was in my hand.
The doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand.
The thoughts that scurried through my head
As I cradled him in my arms,
Were of his younger, puppy years,
And Oh...his many charms.

Today, there was no gentle nudge,
With an intense "I love you" gaze,
Only a heart that's filled with tears
Remembering our joy-filled days.
But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
God also loves our canine friends,
He's installed a doggy door!"

Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / Re: Question about rescues
« on: April 28, 2008, 05:52:44 pm »
I live in BC Canada.
There are rescues who advertise all the time.
I think they would do so in order to prevent an animal
from ever entering the system.  In our province we are mostly
no kill in our shelters (only when necessary-although I know exceptions).  There are many breed specific rescues out there.
Take FORM for example.  Friends Of Rescued Mastiff's.  They are breed specific, and for the most part do not take other breeds in.
I think the majority of the public do not know there are rescues working outside of shelters.  Advertising in the paper is a way for them to get their name out there.  I know I didn't know such things existed till I got involved with the SPCA.  Where I am we work with breed specific rescues, especially pitty's.  Always a whole wack of them around here.

Good point. I'm sorry I even brought this up now. Thanks all.

I agree they need to use whatever means possible to place dogs. This was a dogs wanted ad though which kinda raised my hinky meter a bit.
