Treatment & Preventative Meds / Arthritis?

It has been forever since I have posted but I need your guys help!

My poor poor Sophie can hardly walk...  I've taken her to the vet twice once when she was just limping down the stairs and they found nothing wrong.  Then she started limping worse and we took her back.  They did an x-ray and found nothing.  They have prescribed her Previcox which is mad expensive and now doesn't seem to be helping.  This has been getting steadly worse over the last 2 months and mostly seems to be her hips.

Now she can hardly walk down the stairs and is so stiff when walking around the house. She also is having a hard time getting up from laying down.  She's not whining or anything and doesn't mind me touching her hips.

If there was something really wrong like dysplasia wouldn't it show on an xray?  Would arthritis?  I'm thinking about startng her on asprin after I talk to the vet again this afternoon.  Is there anything else otc that might help?  We have her on gluc/chond.

Hi everyone!

It's been a really long time since I've been here.  The board looks really different but I'm getting used to it.  I do see quite a few names I still recognize :)

For those of you I don't know yet my name is Rachel and I own Sophie a 4 year old mastiff mix.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Sophie's lump came back benign - Yay!!

Sophie had her lump removed and the tests came back Benign.  Yay!!!  The doc. said she got it all and we should not see anything again.

Now we just have to go and get the nasty staples removed.

Just wanted to let you guys know.

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Sophie needs surgery....

So last week I found this tiny bump on the inside of Sophie's elbow.  It just kept getting bigger and bigger so I took her to the vet today.  She said that it is a mass and they need to remove it. So they are doing surgery so they can biopsy it to figure out whether it is malignant or not.  Her surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday.

My poor baby...   :'(

When do you stop feeding a kitten chow?  We're picking up a kitten for my husband's grandmother this weekend and she is 12 - 13 weeks old.  When should she get adult food?

Holiday Things / My Chirstmas card display

Here is my BPO card display.  It's gotten so full that I may need to work on a new idea for next year.  It's basically a huge red bow with the cards pinned with cloths pins on it.  We don't have a lot of counter space so this was the easiest way to display them all.  I love them!!

Food Discussion & Information / How do you know when your dog is allergic to their food?

Hi everyone!

I've been feeding Sophie Canidae for almost as long as i've had her (2 years) she came from the spca eating IAMS so we took her off that immediately. I did my research and thought Canidae was the best choice and was available at the feed store down the street. She also gets 1/3 of a can of Merrick wet food in the morning so that she will happily go into the basement where we keep her when we leave for work.

Well now.... SOPHIE STINKS!!!! and I'm not talking dog smell, I'm talking dog smell x10 and it's kinda yeasty smelling (my best guess as to what the smell is) It's the worst in the morning when she wakes up and streches or even when she gets up from a nap. She has also been licking the top of her paws but they don't look red or irritated or anything. This as been going on for a couple of months and it seems to be getting worse. Oh yeah and her poops are just fine.

I know that Canidae is a very rich food with more then one source of protein. Do you think I should switch her to something milder?

PLEASE I NEED HELP! I'm sick of spraying her bed with Fabrize every time she gets up!

Hi everyone!  It's been awhile since I've posted regularly but I do check BPO everyday!  I have been busy starting my own small business and wanted to share it with my BPO friends.

(If this is not allowed please let me know and I will edit it out)

I started a company called Seaside Quilts.  I sell handmade baby and youth size quilts.  My website is live and ready for business!! Sophie is doing great!  I've attached some pictures of her playing with her Cigar toy that my husband bought for her.  She loves it and the pictures are hilarious.

Discussions & Information on Grooming / Dry flakey skin...

Sophie has got really dry skin right now. She is very flakey all over her back. I have heard that sometimes dry skin can be fixed by changing food but she is eating Canidae which I feel very comfortable with it's quality.  Should I try something different?  She gets a bath maybe once a month sometimes less.  We use oatmeal shampoo and an arm & hammer baking soda conditioner.  Any suggestions for a moisturizing shampoo and/or conditioner?  She gets a daily multivitamin that does have brewer's yeast in it in.  Should we try brewer's yeast on its own or is their another supplement we should try?

Its been awhile since I've posted pictures so here are a few from this weekend.  We are keeping an eye on my grandparents home while they are out of town. They have a great fenced yard that Sophie just loves to run around in.
