I was just contacted about this big fella who really needs a home. He was found as a stray in northern New Brunswick. He is a big loveable fella who is approximatley 3 years old. His fur was covered in mats so he had to be shaved down, but a nice full coat will grow back in. He is unsure of cats, and he will need to be neutered before he goes to his new forever home. If anyone has any questions PLEASE contact me for any other information. I would love to foster the big guy, but I have 2 cats and Hutch does not like any other big males.

Today at the park I met a five old pyr girl who was the most beautiful little thing that I have ever met. After oohing and ahhing over the little fluff ball I was talking to her owner who made me want to spit fire. First he said that he had bought the pup at a pet store (I don't like this, but we can all have melt downs when we see their cute little faces). I was a little reassured when he said that he has been wanting one for a long time and he had to have her. We don't have many giant breeds that come to the park, so it is always nice to talk to another giant owner (that's why we all come to BPO!) but then he started talking about how he couldn't wait for her to go into heat because he wanted to breed her. She is only five months old!!!! He said that he could make so much money off of her because he payed almost $3000 bucks for her in the petstore (I don't doubt this because I know that they sell lab puppies there for $1500) She doesn't have any papers at all, and he wants to breed her in her first heat. He figures that they could make $15000 a year if they breed her. The worst part about it was they want to breed her to a BLACK PYR!!!!!! Someone at the park told them that we have two black pyr's that come to our park and he couldn't wait to meet them before his little one went into heat. It nearly made me sick. I wanted to point off in the distance and say LOOK OVER THERE!!!! and grab his puppy and run. I didn't want to sound like a know it all, but I told him that the only other pyr that came to our park was a cross, and that the two black dogs he was referring to were newfs ( I knew the names of the dogs that he was talking about and thank god they are both neutered and even if they weren't there owner would disagree to breed.) I also suggested to him that it probably wasn't a good idea to breed so young because she wouldn't nearly be mature enough during her first heat to produce a litter of healthy pups. As I was leaving I saw him approaching a shepherd cross owner who hasn't neutered his male because he believes getting the snip will make a dog not grow as much! I can only hope these two people don't get it in their heads to breed these two dogs together. Sorry about the long rant, but  irresponsible breeding hits a HUGE nerve in me. It just makes me sad to think that this beautiful little girl might be the breeding foundation for a BYB.

We are having a problem with Abbey (husky/shepherd), she is 2 and a half years old. The problem is she has gotten into 2 fights with other dogs in the past two weeks. When she was about a year old she had some issues with resource gaurding, but we managed to work that out. If she had a ball she would be snippy to other dogs, occasionally she would get into a tiff if the other dog refused to back down. With lots of patence and work she hasn't displayed any guarding aggression in about a year.

She is usually wonderful around other dogs. I have never had to worry about her and fighting, short of the guarding. Now I am confused. Last night she was smelling a tree and another dog came up to her and they seemed fine for an instant, and then she began to posture, I called her name to regain her focus and the fight started. It was a matter of seconds. Neither dog was hurt, and we managed to seperate them without with any problem. But I don't know what to do. I put her gentle leader on her imediatley and we left the park right away(as soon as I was sure that the other dog was fine). The first incedent was the same sort of situation but we were at a friends house in the back yard and she did the same sort of thing. She had met this dog several times before with no problem, however last night she did not know the other dog.

I absolutley will not bring her to a park where this could happen again. I am desperate for any suggestions as to how we should work on this problem, and what may have triggered this.

By the way, she was at the vets a month ago for her check up, and everything was clear there, so I am pretty sure that it isn't anything physically wrong with her, but if anyone could think of something here to check out, I would definatley appreciate it.

Hello everyone! I am so glad that I found this site! I have been searching for months to find a great Giant dog place to visit on the internet, and have belonged to many dog forums, but like you all probably know it is hard to find people who understand life with our giant babies! I have a 20 month old Saint named Hutch, and a husky/shepherd cross named Abbey. We got Hutch when he was ten months old from a rescue, and he was the most amazing thing to have happened to me. I will never be without a Saint again!! Looking forward to meeting you all!
