Hi all,
I am moving to a new house in a few weeks and the yard... the yard is majestic and beautiful. Incredibly well kept... and GREEN... like nothing I have ever seen.
Enter my pack of dogs. Maybe you can see where this is heading. :P

Does anyone have any clues, tips, ideas, experiences with some kind of way to keep my future lawn from turning yellow/brown within the first week? I have never bothered trying to keep a pretty lawn before because I have always lived in rentals but I am buying this house! So it's a different story!

One thing I thought of was I wonder if dogs fed a raw diet have healthier waste that wouldn't damage the lawn as bad. Any ideas?

THANKS! :)

Big Dogs with Jobs / Anyone watching the dog show?

Westminster time!
I tuned in late only to find I missed the hound group!! At least I can watch the working dogs tomorrow night. But I watched online and saw the Scottish Deerhound that won the hound group... so beautiful!!! My boy Patrick almost looks like a purebred Deerhound but he is leaner like a greyhound. Anyhoo, I love those scruffy hounds so much and I am going to tell Patrick that one if his distant relatives was on tv. ;)

Can't wait to see the Danes tomorrow night!

Great Dane Pictures / Is anything goofier than a Great Dane???

If there were a contest of the goofiest breed, I think that Great Danes would take the cake.

There's a LOT more where this one came from...

Come on folks, bring on your goofiest pics! :D

Bills & Other Legislative Acts / number of dogs allowed??
« on: February 23, 2008, 06:20:35 am »
Hey, does anyone know of a thread on this board or some information somewhere where I can find out about dog laws in different areas? I feel like we've had discussions like this in the past here. I know that in some places by law you are only allowed to have "X" number of dogs in your home or else you need a breeder's license.

I live in redneck Georgia where there don't seem to be many laws about how people keep dogs, which is good for me since I have 5 of them! But I am seriously considering moving out west and I want to make sure I can keep my babies.

Sooo... where is everybody, and what are the dog laws in your area?
Thanks... you guys rock. ;D

Hi, I have actually been a member for a really long time but I have been missing in action for a while! I know there are still a bunch of my old pals around here! ;)

But for anyone who never "knew" me, hehe, my name is Rebekah and I am a lover of big paws (and small ones too). A lot has happened at my house since I was on the board last, and my line-up has changed, but my current household consists of a bunch of rescues:

Zoot, a pointer mix
Mokey, a lab/Pyrenees mix
Turkey, a 3 legged husky mix
Connor, a blue Great Dane
Patrick, a Scottish Deerhound mix
and I think I have 9 or 10 cats.
 ;D

I'll work on getting some pics together. I haven't had a nice camera for a while but I'll see what I can muster. The drawing in my avatar is a portrait I did of my Great Dane.
I hope everyone is doing well and I can't wait to catch up with old friends! Looks like everyone has some new dogs and babies too!!!! YAY!!!

Great Dane Discussions / Who all has a rescued Great Dane?
« on: January 26, 2007, 07:27:47 pm »
I was just thinking about the rescued Great Danes we have over here at my house, and what a joy they are. Something just got me to thinking about them. I think I know some of the stories of how people on this site rescued Danes but I was thinking... maybe I haven't heard about some of them??

Let's share rescued Dane stories!!! :D I'll start!

Will rescued Leeloo from the Petfinder classifieds. The ad was a last resort before this Dane would be taken to the pound. She was a divorce leftover. :-[ So Will adopted her, she was 4 and a half years old. Healthy but very underweight. Luckily she was worm-free and heartworm-free. She slowly picked up weight over the next few months. She had a very dominant personality, but there aren't any other dominant females in our household so everything worked out fine. She bonded to us immediately, and has been an awesome companion. Her only health issue has been a malformed tooth in the back of her mouth, which will eventually need to be pulled. She's 5 and a half now, and still energetic as can be. She's so beautiful. It's so hard to imagine that she was unwanted.
It's been a great experience to take her in and see her change and "blossom" on good nutrition and lots of love. Here are 2 pictures of her from her first week home and then 2 current pictures of her looking fantastic. ;D

(I'll do Connor later after other people have a turn!)
Please share your rescued Dane story and pictures!!! :D

Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / so this is what breeders do???
« on: January 08, 2007, 08:29:21 pm »
When times get tough? I guess that breeders just take their dogs down to the shelter and get rid of them when money is tight! :'( :'( :'(

A breeder apparently dumped these 4 beautiful Rottweilers down at a shelter in GA where they still use the gas chamber to euthanize animals.

Can you imagine? Looks like this boy was an owner surrender. He is marked URGENT.

He's in Gwinnett county, an easy trip from Atlanta. Can someone help this boy before his time is up? The earliest I could help would be Tuesday if he makes it that long. I am 40 minutes from this shelter.

Holiday Things / Christmas Turkey!!!
« on: December 25, 2006, 12:18:04 am »
Hi everyone and a big Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!!!!!!! :D :D :D

As some of you know, my dog Turkey was hit by a car about two months ago and broke her back leg and her pelvis. Well... today she comes home from North Carolina from her second surgery. She had the pin taken out of her femur, and got some ex-rays. The ex-rays showed all of her bones to be totally healed!!!! YAY!!!! And in a few hours I will receive the best gift, my little Turkey!!! ;D

So she will have to be confined for a little bit longer while she's still sensitive from the pin, but no more surgeries!!! YAY!!!!!! I am so so thankful!!!!!!!! So we'll see how she feels, I am hoping that now that the pin is out she will be more comfortable about using her back leg. So far she had been just truckin' around on her three good legs. But I am really crossing my fingers that she will use all four legs very soon!

Thanks everyone for your support while we went through this, it was so hard in the beginning and it really feels like a miracle that I still have my baby girl!!! YAY for Turkey!!!
I'll post pics of her after she gets home today. ;)
 ;D
