Wolfhound Discussions & Pictures / one more question
« on: August 26, 2005, 01:21:14 am »
I have been researching Irish Wolfhounds for quite some time now (hopefully I'll be rescuing one soon!!) and have read as much as I can get my eyes on...I was wondering if anyone here could recommend some reading or websites that could possibly be beneficial? (there's always that website your search engine misses or that book your library doesn't have...)although I've found that most of the information I've come across is repetitive, it doesn't hurt to ask, right? thank you...

Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / possible irish wolfhound rescue
« on: August 26, 2005, 01:16:52 am »
I may have found an irish wolfhound for rescue in my area and am really excited and will most likely adopt if I can...my question is- to those few of you that have (or had) an IW that was a mixed breed, do you find that the size of the IW has been a dominant factor? the place where I found her says that she's an Irish Wolfhound, which I assume means pure breed...I will love her (if I get her) regardless but the thought of having a gigantic dog is very exciting...and I was just curious if anyone has found that size is dominant in mixed breed...thanks!!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / wolfhound, dane question
« on: July 30, 2005, 05:00:06 pm »
I was just curious...thos e of you that have a full grown wolfhound or dane...how much does your gentle giant weigh? I ask because I called up an IW breeder and she told me that her males average 180 and her femals average 150lbs...a dane rescuer told me something similar...i've been seeing several different weight ranges on the internet and was just looking for a more personal response....al so, how tall are your fences? i've been given various answers, from 5' to 6', to a small white picket fence...(i realize that training your dog is the key, once again i'm just looking for a more personal response...)

thanks,

matt

Wolfhound Discussions & Pictures / irish wolfhound query...
« on: July 24, 2005, 09:28:10 pm »
I have been seriously interested in the IW for quite some time now and was hoping that anyone here would be willing to offer advice, recommend reading, etc...concerin g an IW specifically. I have also been considering a great dane, mastiff, saint B...(most other large dogs) I have contacted the IWCA and AKC through email for advice and am following suit here...I myself would be considered an "extra large dog", if I were a dog...I'm 6'9", 275lbs and have always felt that a bigger dog would be more up my alley, whenever I encounter a small dog I think that I should just go ahead and get another cat (I already have two) While I love my two kittens forever, I want to feel like I've got a companion and not an animal who gives me attention when they feel like it (my cats are exceptional in that respect, but nonetheless... they are still cats and they choose their affections) I have researched many extra-large breeds and find myself going to the Irish Wolfhound, every time...everyth ing I read about them seems like me. Big and lazy- but can really move if necessary. (Former college basketball player who loves doing nothing but also enjoys exercise)...a wolfhound just seems like the dog I'm destined to get...any advice, thoughts, recommendation s, anything?

thanks...

matt
