Great Pyrenees Pictures / lookie what i found!
« on: December 24, 2005, 12:47:35 am »
Friday, I went to one of Dallas' shelters to pick up a couple pyr-lab mixes for SPIN.....they were sooooo cute......even though they pee'd, poop'd & got car sick all over the back of my car! - good thing I'd remembered to put down some towels!   ;)

They both gave me lots of puppy kisses while I was putting collars on them in the kennel at the shelter.  Jack was insistent that my ear needed some washing - it made it hard to put the collar on Jill with him tickling my ear!   :D

Jill had a chihuahua harness wrapped way too tight (both the neck & body parts were around her neck).  >:(

I took them to their new foster mommies for some tlc.....while they were with me, I called them Jack & Jill (Jack has the green leash, Jill the red one).

They remind me of how Casper looked when I first saw him on Petfinder. :)

Great Pyrenees Pictures / Yippee!!! Graduation day was today!!
« on: December 17, 2005, 03:10:54 am »
Finally!!!  Lucy graduated from beginning obedience class!!!  It only took 3 months!! LOL!!  My fault for having to work (oh the pain!)!!  We started in September!  Because I don't get a consistent day off, sometimes we'd go a couple weeks between lessons.  BUT Today was THE DAY!!!   ;D

Silly girl didn't want to wear her graduation hat!  :-\ You'd think with all the silly stuff I've put on her head over the past several months, that this would've been a piece of cake - but NOT so!! ::)  The pics below are her sulking, then one with Kim our local Pet smart trainer, and finally with me!  I really don't like my picture taken anymore - my "allergic shiners" look terrible!  Anyone out there know how to get rid of them? ???

Lucy doesn't know it yet, but I've already signed her up for Intermediate class - it starts in mid-January AND I'm off on the days that I need to be to keep her in class with other doggies & their owners instead of having to do private lessons.  Yay!   :D

Games & Jokes / calling all blondes!

since I'm a blonde - I think it appropriate that I get to post these!  enjoy!   ;D ;D

Mostly seen before but still a nice collection…………….

Blonde LOGIC
Two blondes living in Oklahoma were sitting on a bench talking....... . and one blonde says to the other, "Which do you think is farther away.......... Florida or the moon?"
The other blonde turns and says "Helloooooooooo, can you see Florida...?????"

CAR TROUBLE
A blonde pushes her BMW into a gas station. She tells the mechanic it died. After he works on it for a few minutes, it is idling smoothly.
She says, "What's the story?"
He replies, "Just crap in the carburetor"
She asks, "How often do I have to do that?"

SPEEDING TICKET
A police officer stops a blonde for speeding and asks her very nicely if he could see her license.
She replied in a huff, "I wish you guys would get your act together. Just yesterday you take away my license and then today you expect me to show it to you!"

RIVER WALK
There's this blonde out for a walk. She comes to a river and sees another blonde on the opposite bank. "Yoo-hoo!" she shouts, "How can I get to the other side?"
The second blonde looks up the river then down the river and shouts back, "You ARE on the other side."

KNITTING
A highway patrolman pulled alongside a speeding car on the freeway. Glancing at the car, he was astounded to see that the blonde behind the wheel was knitting! Realizing that she was oblivious to his flashing lights and siren, the trooper cranked down his window, turned on his bullhorn and yelled, "PULL OVER!"
"NO!" the blonde yelled back, "IT'S A SCARF!"

BLONDE ON THE SUN
A Russian, an American, and a Blonde were talking one day. The Russian said, "We were the first in space!"
The American said, "We were the first on the moon!"
The Blonde said, "So what? We're going to be the first on the sun!"
The Russian and the American looked at each other and shook their heads. "You can't land on the sun, you idiot! You'll burn up!" said the Russian.
To which the Blonde replied, "We're not stupid, you know. We're going at night!"

IN A VACUUM
A blonde was playing Trivial Pursuit one night. It was her turn. She rolled the dice and she landed on Science &Nature. Her question was, "If you are in a vacuum and someone calls your name, can you hear it?"
She thought for a time and then asked, "Is it on or off?"

FINALLY, THE BLONDE JOKE TO END ALL BLONDE JOKES!
A girl was visiting her blonde friend, who had acquired two new dogs, and asked her what their names were. The blonde responded by saying that one was named Rolex and one was named Timex.

Her friend said, "Whoever heard of someone naming dogs like that?"
"HELLLOOOOOOO.. ....," answered the blond. "They're watch dogs!"

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Confessions
« on: November 24, 2005, 12:57:32 am »
Confession #1:
I'm a foster failure.  I just can't resist those bwd's with beautiful brown eyes.  ;)  Frosty is officially one of my dogs now.   ;D

She will need surgery on her shoulders - she has osteochondriti s dessicans in both.  The left one is pretty bad & is causing her a lot of pain when she tries to play.  Lucy has ocd in her right shoulder - they make a great pair of gimpy dogs.  :(  Bella's right hip was subluxed & the ortho vet put it back in place when he did her exam - she'll need x-rays to confirm it, but the vet & I are pretty sure she has hip dysplasia....s o far tho, she doesn't show any signs that it is hurting her like Frosty & Lucy are showing with their shoulders.

Confession #2:
I'm a sucker for brown eyes.....am now fostering another dog (that makes 5 bwds at my house + 1 cat)....meet Pete.  He got his name because he was being a "sneaky" Pete....the day I picked him up from the HSNT shelter for SPIN, he crawled over the front seats from the back of the car & helped himself to my Starbucks coffee while I was inside filling out the release papers.  :o

Pete's story:  his owner didn't know he was missing, didn't know he was a "he" (thought he was a "she") and didn't want to pay the vet bill for the HSNT, so she surrendered him.   >:(    Pete had pretty obviously been on the streets for a while & eating trash to survive...he was having stool with styrofoam, plastic & blood from the irritation to his colon when he was found.   :'(    He only weighed 65 lb on the day I picked him up from the shelter.  He's approximately between 1 & 2 years old (by his behavior, I'd say closer to 1 year old).  He has fear-aggression  :(  & will need a lot of re-education about us humans & how to behave around us.  Pete is sweet & loving with me & has decided to protect me & my house....which has caused a few problems with my pet sitters while I'm at work....it's getting better pretty fast because he is a very smart dog.  His behavior around some humans shows signs of having been abused, too.

Casper would put himself between Pete & I the first week that he was here....now they are chums except when Pete challenges him for alpha status.....lit tle do they know that the females rule the roost here!   ;)   ;D

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Way to go, Pearl-girl!!
« on: September 27, 2005, 11:20:31 pm »
Roger, the guy that's mowed my lawn for the last several years came by today to mow, so I took all the new furbabies out to meet & greet and tell him their stories (he's a dog lover, too!)....

Well, he looks at Pearl and asks - "how do you get one like her?"

I tell him that she's up for adoption!  He wants Pearl!!  I kept asking him - "are you sure?" and explained her fear, neglect, & abuse issues, that she was not going to be a giant like Casper & Bella, but more the size of a sheltie....and he just kept saying that he wanted her!  Pearl even showed just how scared she was of anything new by trying to hide under the junipers...so I went & picked her up & brought her to him and he sat & held her & loved on her & she started smiling!  He's gonna get his daughters to download the application and I gave him one of SPIN's pamplets (my printer's usb port isn't working so I couldn't download it & print it out for him).....

Please keep "Mini" Pearl in your prayers that this works out!!!   ;D

Great Pyrenees Discussions / Stressful day!...Pictures at last!:)
« on: August 26, 2005, 09:38:08 pm »
Bella & Lucy got to come home today after what seems like an incredibly long wait (almost 2 weeks)!!!!!! :D

The drive home went well except for the Dallas traffic - something is always clogging the roads.

Bella is frightened by new places & her new home was no exception.  I made her her own special place in an extra large pet yard pen...put in a couple dog bed cushions (she's so thin & bony that I worry about her lying on a hard floor), toys & Lucy, her foster friend.  Also gave her half a tab of Rimadyl - she was spayed yesterday and just looked like she felt bad.  She & Lucy took naps & then it was time to pack up & go to their new vet (Dr Hemenway has been my vet for Miko, Dona, Gremlin, & Fang for the last 12 years and is a sweetheart!!!) for a check up.  Bella is 59lb & Lucy is 15lb.  Other than looking a little sad from having their operations yesterday, both got a clean bill of health - this is good news, since they got exposed to the sweet Miss Sadie Parvo (who also has kennel cough).....I am anxiously waiting to see if they develop any signs of illness.  Casper got a booster against Kennel cough today.

Casper was thrilled that he had 2 new playmates, but unfortunately neither wanted to play when they first got home......so, after getting home from the vet check and another long nap & some food, Lucy got brave enough to venture out of the pet yard & explore.  She is sooo cute!!  She & Chessie, my cat, are the same size & they are a riot to watch them chase each other!! ;D

Currently, Bella has gotten a little braver and come out of the yard to explore only to find a couple of Casper's rawhide chews - she promptly confiscated one & dared anyone to take it from her!  So, naturally, I went to the pantry & got more out so that Lucy & Casper could have some, too.

Please say a prayer that everyone stays healthy & that they learn to tolerate each other....they had so much fun playing when we went to Bagheera's mom's (their foster mom) to visit.....it's sad that the stress of the day is making things difficult. :-\  The few times that Casper has tried to engage Bella in play, she has taken it as an attack & quickly tried to escalate things with growls & snaps.  He's such a happy thing, that he doesn't seem to get it.

Thank God for Lucy & Casper who seem to be the happiest dogs alive!!! :D  I'm praying that Bella is just doing a "girl" thing & stressing..... too bad dogs can't eat chocolate when stressed!!! ;D
