Hey everyone!
I know it's been a while, but I figured I would dtop by an introduce my new addition, Daisy. She is about 6 months old, and I have no idea what breeds she has mixed in her! I was really hoping she would get huge, but at this point, I don't see it happening. She is only about 30 pounds, and hasn't grown any in about a month or so. My vet originally told me she was a dobie mix, but she is so small, I'm just not sure. She has no bottom teeth in the front of her mouth, and I found her deserted on the side of the road. I'm going to try to add a picture here, if I can remember how!

Book Club & Noteworthy Reads / What do you all think?
« on: September 27, 2006, 05:26:39 pm »
I found this article in the local paper, and it made me really sad. I thought I would post it to you all and see what you think. I think people should be more responsible for their dogs. There are too many loose dogs running around here in Alabama, and it causes many problems. I feel bad for the woman this happened to, and it is dogs like these that give pitbulls a bad name. The comment the asst. polic chief made really bothered me, he is stereotyping a certain breed and it is because of that kind of ignorance people hate certain breeds. The dogs that attacked could have been any breed. However, I do think they should probably be put to sleep or kept inside with their owner and no one else. What do you all think?

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Cesco attacked me :-(
« on: May 15, 2006, 10:03:54 pm »
Well, Cesco grabbed some candy from the table tonight and I went to take it out of his mouth and he didn't like that very much. I put my hand in his mouth to get it and he grabbed my hand, sunk his teeth in and wouldn't let go. I am left with 3 puncture wounds and a broken heart. My parents say he has to go. I say it is MY FAULT. When Cesco was a year old he attacked my dad when my dad went to grab his food bowl to fill it up. Then when he got his paw stuck in the front gate, my dad tried to get it out, and ended up with 16 more stiches. Someone please tell me we are stupid humans and this problem can be solved. Please tell me this is all my fault. My dad is ready to put him to sleep and my mom and I are sobbing because we love him so much, but don't know what to do. He gets very aggressive around his food, toys, pen, and treats. Otherwise he is a great dog!! SO happy and friendly. Please guys, I need your help here, PLEASE tell me there is a solution...... .I will do anything he needs. Feel free to tell me I am an idiot for sticking my hand in his mouth to get the candy, I realize this and wish it had never happened.  :'(

Hey everyone, most of you have probable seen this, but I thought I would post it for those that haven't!!

Subject: How many dogs does it take to change a light bulb?

1. Golden Retriever: The sun is shining, the day is young, we've got our whole lives ahead of us, and you're inside worrying about a stupid burned out bulb?

2. Border Collie: Just one. And then I'll replace any wiring that's not up to code.

3. Dachshund: You know I can't reach that stupid lamp!

4. Rottweiler: Make me.

5. Boxer: Who cares? I can still play with my squeaky toys in the dark.

6. Lab: Oh, me, me!!!!! Pleeeeeeeeeze let me change the light bulb! Can I? Can I? Huh? Huh? Huh? Can I? Pleeeeeeeeeze, please, please, please!

7. German Shepherd: I'll change it as soon as I've led these people from the dark, check to make sure I haven't missed any, and make just one more perimeter patrol to see that no one has tried to take advantage of the situation.

8. Jack Russell Terrier: I'll just pop it in while I'm bouncing off the walls and furniture. (how true)! this would be my boogie

9. Old English Sheep Dog: Light bulb? I'm sorry, but I don't see a light bulb!

10. Cocker Spaniel: Why change it? I can still pee on the carpet in the dark.

11. Chihuahua: Yo quiero Taco Bulb. Or "We don't need no stinking light bulb."

12. Greyhound: It isn't moving. Who cares?

13. Australian Shepherd: First, I'll put all the light bulbs in a little circle...

14. Poodle: I'll just blow in the Border Collie's ear and he'll do it. By the time he finishes rewiring the house, my nails will be dry.

How many cats does it take to change a light bulb?

Cats do not change light bulbs. People change light bulbs. So, the real question is:

"How long will it be before I can expect some light, some dinner, and a massage?"

ALL OF WHICH PROVES, ONCE AGAIN, THAT WHILE DOGS HAVE MASTERS, CATS HAVE STAFF!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Pics from Louisville
« on: March 21, 2006, 12:21:56 pm »
Just thought some of our horse lovers might like a few of these pics. They are from the other night when Bradley and I went to Louisville. Bradley's first horse and buggy ride! Our horse's name was Sugar, and the driver had a cute dog named Joe who rode on his lap. The pics aren't that great, but I thought I would post them anyway.

My mom sent me this and I thought you all would enjoy it  ;)

Why Dogs Don't Live As Long As People...

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker.
The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very much attached to Belker and
they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer.
I told the family there were no miracles left for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for the four-year-old Shane to observe the procedure.
They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him.
Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on.
Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.
The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion.

We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.
Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up,
"I know why."
Startled, we all turned to him.
What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.
He said,
"People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?"
The four-year-old continued,
"Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply, Speak kindly. Leave
the rest to
God.

Anything Non-Dog Related / I need advice from everyone!
« on: March 16, 2006, 01:34:06 pm »
Ok, here's the deal. I moved to Jacksonville, Alabama in August. I am attending my fourth college here and moved into an apartment complex called Jacksonville Place Apartments. I have realized that it really isn't a safe place to live, but I haven't been able to get out of my one year lease, which is up in August. The rent here is really cheap, and I also can't afford to live anywhere else. I will just highlight the major things that have happened here. A few robberies, breakins, assualts, but to me personally, 3 men tried to break my front door down a few months ago, someone pushed my car up past the curb onto the grass, and stupid things like that. Now, a whole different problem is the guys who live above me. One guy is wanted for armed robbery, yet the cops haven't picked him up. I have no idea why. Last month, my apartment was flooded because one of the idiots above me left their water running and it came in through my ceiling and my fans causing a MESS. Now this morning the worst has happened. I was sitting in the living room when a bullet came through the ceiling. Yes, you read that right. A 9 mm bullet came flying through my ceiling bringing pieces of white paint and ceiling chips with it. I was here alone so I called the main office. They came down here and called the cops. They told me they could help me and my roomates move to another apartment, but that it still doesn't qualify for me to get out of my lease. I asked them if they would finally get rid of the guys above me, they said probably not. As I am writing this, the cops are leading one guy in handcuffs to their car. They said they found 2 guns in the apartment. They also asked the apartment manager if she knew one of the guys was wanted for armed robbery? She pretended she didn't know. I know this all sounds very confusing, and I apologize. I am very stressed about it all. I am suppossed to be working tomorrow 9-7 and then driving 6 1/2 hours to Fort Knox, KY to see my bf for spring break. I have no time or money to move. I don't even know anyone here that could help me move. I am beyond angry that the cops and the apartment complex staff don't get rid of the idiots that live above me. My roomate is convinced they are scared of them. I am beginning to agree. My mother is freaking out saying that now they will get revenge on me for reporting them. I just don't know what to do. What is the point in transferring apartments, if this whole place is a ghetto? I feel like I will probably just run into more idiots in another apartment. Ultimatly, I need to get out of here into a new apartment building, but like I was told, I still cannot get out of this lease. I lived in NY my entire life, and I never felt as unsafe as I have felt living here in Jacksonville, Alabama. This is just crazy. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know! I carry mace around with me everywhere, but how much can that really do? There are still cop cars outside, 3 have left, 4 remain, but they haven't said anything to me in 3 hours. I still can't believe this happened! I feel like it has all been a bad dream since I moved in here. My ceiling is molded from the "flood", a few nights ago I found cockroaches in my bedroom and spent $40 on "deroaching" supplies, and now this? Grrrr!!!!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Revolution VS. Frontline Plus
« on: January 25, 2006, 10:15:08 pm »
Ok, so I used to be dead set on Revolution for my cats, but then my vet convinced me to switch to Frontline Plus. Now my mom is asking me which one to order for Cesco, and I am all confused. Does anyone know for sure which one protects against more and protects better for cats and dogs? The research is just confusing!!!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / New Pup any suggetions?
« on: August 23, 2005, 10:57:52 pm »
We are looking into getting a new puppy. We want a dog with a good temperment, a good family dog. Preferably one that has short hair or doesn't shed much. We want a big dog, who doesn't mind the water. We are thinking about getting another lab, any suggestions?
Thanks,
Cheyenne

Mixed Breed Discussion / Please help!
« on: August 13, 2005, 10:48:14 pm »
Hi all,
I just joined and a have a question that I pray someone can answer. I have a 1 1/2 year old Siberian Husky/ Black lab male dog. He had been losing weight and crying so I brought him to the vet a few weeks ago. She diagnosed him with an inner ear infection and gave him medication. Well, he still seems to be losing weight and not really eating. A friend saw him today and mentioned that Huskies are the only breed who will starve themselves to death. I asked him why he said that and he said his vet told him that, but he thinks it is because they are not very smart. I am concerned about his not eating, but my vet doesn't seem to think it is a big deal. Anyone wih info please let me know, thanks!!!!!!!!
