Mixed Breed Discussion / Update on Gus...and some bitter-sweet news.
« on: January 26, 2007, 01:56:32 pm »
Hey guys..well today is the 6th day Gus has been missing, and I still havent heard anything. Everyone is starting to tell me that I should accept that Ill never see him again. Ive been crying alot. Im at work now, but already cried here once today too. My poor Gus.  :'(

About a month ago, a lady I met at the dog park wanted to adopt Nova my pitbull puppy. Well at the time I was having some problems and she totally begged me for her. I let her take her knowing that she was educated about pits. Well she called me today to tell me that her cancer is getting really bad and she needs me to take Nova back. I dont know how I should feel. Im going to get her when I get off tonight. I feel better knowing that Ive had her before and she wont be "replacing" Gus. I loved her alot and cried when I gave her to Sherry, so I know I will love her now as well.

I just really miss my boy and dont know what to do with myself. Please keep praying for Gus' safe return home to me. Thank you all.

« on: January 24, 2007, 02:01:15 pm »
Gus has been missing since Saturday night. :(   I came home from work, took him out to go potty. He went around the corner to go poop like he has been doig for months now, and I havent seen him since. I KNOW he didnt run away, he just wouldnt do that. I looked all over, drove all over and called him for two straight hours. Ive put up fliers and out an ad in the paper, called the pound, all the vets in my area. He just disappeared. I am positive that someone has him. I jsut dont know what to do. Im so worried, Im not sleeping. I know all of you know how I feel. Gus is my child, my best friend, and the only constant thing in my life for almost 3 years now. I miss him so much. Guys, I am lost without him, and I dont know what Ill do if I dont get him back. Any suggestions or love you can give would be great. Thanks everyone.  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / HELP PLEASE!!! CRATE TRAINING!!
« on: November 28, 2006, 04:49:10 am »
Hey everyone, so I decided to start crate training Nova..I started 3 days ago. The first 2 days I was off work so she really wasnt in there all that much. Today, I put her in there at about 9:40 this morning before I went to work, then went home on my lunch at about 2:00. It was a disaster!! She had pulled the blanket I put over the crate thru the bars and ripped it to shreds, she managed to slide the tray out, pooped all over, and was barking up a storm. Some of you know the story of my neighboor below me, so needless to say this doesnt help. So, I NEED SOME TIPS PEOPLE!! What is the best way to get her use to it? Everyone I talk to says their dog LOVES his/her crate. She is going nuts!! I put her in my room, shut the door, and turn the radio on. I know it will take some time, but I need some advice! I dont know how to do this except put her in there with a few toys, her bones, and cover it with a blanket. Anything would be soooo helpful! Thanks everyone!

Ok, so heres the thing. I love in an apartment complex that allows dogs of any size, which is rare and awesome!! Part of the lease is that you will pick up after you dogs when they poop, ok thats fine. Well, they sent out a notice in August that they were having a big problem with people not doing it and they might have to take away pet priveleges if it didnt get better. Well, havent heard anythig since and nobody does it still. Well, I got my puppy in October and shes been doing great. One time about two weeks after I got her and she peed in the breezeway of my building. My neighboor below me freaked out and called me accusing me and cussing and screaming. I apologized and said I would watch her more carefully. Gus, my 2 year old dog, does great and will hold it until the end of the world if he has to! So...basically I get home last night and theres a note on my door from the office saying that Im getting complaints about an odor of urine in the breezeway and me not cleaning up after my dogs. I got really mad and sent him a text to tell him two can play that game.  So, he calls me and the first thing he says is "Look here you stupid B****! OMG!! h*ll no!! So we get into a huge argument, hes calling me every name in the book and saying the most awful things about me and my dogs. To sum it up, he said that hes going to keep complaining and try and get me kicked out of my apartment. All I wanted was for him to calm down and stop screaming and cussing at me!! I went to the office this morning and they said either we would have to work it out,or one of us will just have to move.

So, I have decided to transfer to a different aparment. It will be with the same company and I wont have to pay anything extra, just transfer my utilities. Plus, Ill have a nice new clean aparment and no crazy neighboor. Isnt that awful? People are NEVER mean to me and never speak to me the way he did. He says noone in the complex likes me or my dogs. Well I have spoken to my other neighboors and they said they have no problems with me. Gus barks when people come up the stairs or right after I leave and thats it. Ok, Im sorry I just had to tell you guys cause I knew you would understand. Any suggestions on what I should do??

So, Nova, my 11 week old pit mix pup has been doing some things that I have questions about.

First, she has destroyed 3 pairs of my jeans, two of them brand new. She gets ahold of them, and within 5 minutes she eats the ENTIRE crotch out of them. I know, its disgusting!! Not to mention its costing me. I may as well let her eat cash!! I know, I know, I should just keep them out of her reach.

Second, she is doing GREAT with the potty training. She still poops when Im at work, but I understand because I know shes not old enough to hold it for that long yet. My question is should I still leave food out for her during the day? Gus eventually trained himself not to eat until Im home b/c he knows that he cant potty otherwise. I know that you're suppose to leave food out all the time until they're one year old. At least thats what I have been told.

Thirdly, and this goes for both my dogs. When we are outside, neither of them are on leashes. They do great until another person comes walking up. I live in an apartment so other people are pretty common. Both of them run as fast as they can to the person and bark at them. Now, neither of them would ever bite anyone, and most people dont care, but there is the occasional person that screams bloody murder and acts like they are going to die. SO...what should I do? I I say nonononono.... but that really doesnt work. They listen to me in every other case but this one. HELP!! Im afraid someone is going to either report me or kick one of them (Id have to hurt someone) or something. I know the simple solution is to leash them but I really dont want to do that and am exploring every other optio first.

Thanks guys, youre the greatest!

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Potty Training....
« on: October 20, 2006, 04:45:55 am »
Hey everyone, well Nova is 8 weeks old now. Ive been working with her on the potty training and Im starting to get pretty frustrated to be honest. I know that when Im at work she cant hold it that long so I understand, but when Im home she still goes in the house. I try and catch her as soon as she wakes up or a little after she eats and its not really working. I need some help. I hate punishing her. Gus does great and I had hoped she would learn from him but thats not working either. Please, any advice would be so great. I need something thats going to be really effective....t hanks everyone!

Mixed Breed Discussion / What do you think?
« on: October 06, 2006, 05:22:56 am »
Well, I finally did it. I found a cure for my puppy bug. She is about 5 pounds of pure cuteness!!! I picked her up yesterday and I am sooo in love with her. She is brindle with one paw thats white. She is a mix, but she is still cute. Gus doesnt know what to think yet, but he is being good with her so far. I have picked two names and this is what I need your help with. Its either Jasmin or Nova. I like them both and they both fit her...so tell me what you think! I promise I will post pics soon.

Hey guys I have a dilemna..
I REALLY want another dog. All the kitties are gone so it's back to me and Gus. I know that I want a bigger dog, maybe a lab or mix breed of some kind but I just dont know if I should. I know that if I do I will adopt an adult that is housebroken already. I know all of you will tell me it's a great idea. But here's the thing....I live in a one bedroom apartment..min d you its a BIG one bedroom and theres room to run around, and I really want gus to have a companion. But seriously tell me what you guys think, I know you all know how I feel when you get that itch for another furkid. Thanks guys!
ps. Gus is being neutered at this very moment..Im worried! ???

Mixed Breed Discussion / Parvo?
« on: July 08, 2006, 10:06:12 am »
Can dogs still get parvo when they get older? I mean , Gus is going to be 2 next month (i cant believe it!) and we live in an apartment so Im not all that worried but I just wondered. also, Im going to get him neutered at the end of this month and Im worried that he will lose his spunk that I love so much. But I really want to so he'll quit running at full speed when he sees another dog and sticks his nose as far up their *** as he can! Any advice would be helpful, thanks guys!
