Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / Pyr needs help in Atlanta
« on: April 08, 2007, 10:25:19 am »
Hey, ya'll!

I haven't posted in a while and I'm so sorry for that.  :-\

Anyhow, there is a Pyr wandering loose in my neighborhood that someone has abandoned. His owners moved and left him here with his buddy, a Chow-Chow. I believe someone has taken in the Chow, but I don't know what to do about the Pyr. I'm going to try and keep him until someone can give him a permanent home or a good foster home. He's all matted up and he's scavenging for food. I'd LOVE to keep him, but hubby says our house is full.  :( I'll try to get some photos up shortly. I'm not sure if he's a he or a she or anything.

Please let me know if anyone can help us. Thank you, BPOers!!

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Danes and sensitive skin
« on: September 15, 2006, 09:59:34 am »
Me again  :)

Skuy's at the vet and they are wanting to do a skin test on him. When we adopted him, we were told that he had some allergy tests done and he's allergic to fleas and grass. We don't know what meds to put him on and he hates pills, so we give him flea preventive and keep him out of the grass as much as we can. He still gets bumps and little scabbies on him coat. They clear up A LOT in the colder months, but never really looks bad. They also want him on anti-inflammatories and antibiotics, which seems a little much to me as he doesn't have a fever, open wounds, swelling, etc. You can't even see his skin blemishes unless you're petting him and really looking for them.

I'm one that doesn't like to constantly medicate my dogs unless it's really needed (like when he had a toe removed). Does this sound right, or am I right in being a bit alarmed?

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Heartgard Price match....help!
« on: September 15, 2006, 04:08:28 am »
Hello, everyone!

I know I haven't posted on here in forever, but I read BPO like a junkie every day and I just know y'all can help me. It's time for Sky, the super Dane, to get his Heartgard chews. My vet does price matching and I was wondering if someone knows of a site that sells Heartgard Plus for under $30/box.

The best I can find is $27.95/6 months @ www.bridgesons .com. Thanks, everyone!

Jessica, Skuy, and Ivy  ;D

Had to post this one. One Harl and one brindle (per the ad). Brother & sister  pups. Super cute babies being given away b/c owner is moving. Ad says 11mos, but that's all wrong. These would be the tiniest 11mo old Danes ever. Here's the link.

Here are the pups!

Hi, Everyone!

Apparently, I am a magnet for sweet stray babies. Last night, a pit followed our weim inside. We know who he belongs to and sent him home. Maybe he'll stay there this time ;)This morning, the sweetest fella got in my fence! He's a shepard/chow mix (perhaps) and he is soooooo sweet! He broke off the chain that he was tethered to and found me. I've had him in the front yard today just checking him out. He seems totally healthy. He's got no identification . I've posted in a couple of other places and called some rescues...they are all full. I'd like to foster him but hubby's not interested (and I am soooo pissed about that). Can someone tell me what else I can do? BPOers are all incredible...y ou've gotta have some ideas. I'm really broken up about this. He's awesome and gets along with my other two just fine. Please help!

2 Beautiful, papered male Land Seer dogs (New Foundland). Both weigh close to 150 lbs. each. Very sweet, but extra large (don't know their own strength/size). Kept outside so would need a lot of attention/training if kept indoors. Bought from breeder for my kids but now they are too large for us. Happy to part for free to the right person (that knows these dogs/or who is patient and has the room for them)

Serious Inquiries only, please. My kids are having a hard time knowing that we have to part with Gulliver and Goliath

this is in or around Davisboro, GA

no -- it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests

C'mon people, these boys need lovin'!

Great Dane Discussions / Light food?
« on: February 16, 2006, 12:56:02 pm »
Just a quick question. . . .

Skuy is a very tall boy! I'm sure you all familiar with that - you've got Danes. Anyhow, he weighs in at 153 pounds. One of the last times he was at the vet the Dr. said we might want to switch him to a light food. You can feel a thin layer of fat on his ribs, but it's not a lot. He's by no means overweight. He has gained some weight lately.

Will light food really make a difference for him? Is Science Diet a good choice?

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Puffy Dane Toe
« on: February 12, 2006, 03:39:18 pm »
Hi All!

I'm new to the forum and I have a 3yr. old Dane and a 2 yr. old Weim.

Our Dane, Skuy, is a rescue and he came to us with some bad allergy problems. His skin was really red, especially on his paws. We changed his food and have taken him to the vet and things have cleared up - except for one toe! We've tried everything. Antibiotics helped curb the infection and he was on an anti-inflammatory that reduced a lot of the swelling. He licks it and I have tried to stop him, but I can't keep him from it all the time.

He's going back to the vet Wednesday and they want to do a biopsy? Does this sound right? It's not oozing, not as swollen, doesn't hurt him. I want the best for my pup, but I don't want them to do things that seem extreme. Help!
