Medical Conditions & Diseases / Dead teeth
« on: August 29, 2008, 12:31:38 pm »
Issy's teeth have always been a bit discolored, I just chalked it up to some mal-nourishment before I got her.  Well, today we went to the vet for annual stuff and I specifically asked him about her teeth; most of the bottom ones are now greyish.  He said that the roots of the teeth have probably died.  She's not a big chewer, and he actually said that chewing may not have been a factor anyway.  I asked what I have to look forward too and he said maybe nothing but we have to watch for abscess.  They aren't causing her any pain, at least not now.  He does want to do x-rays but he said it's no hurry so I guess when I get her hips x-rayed in Jan I'll have her teeth x-rayed too.  I just thought it was odd, I don't know why I know it can happen; but she's soo young and of course I immediately thought that her teeth would have to be pulled, how would she chew?????  No questions really, just wanted to bounce it off people!

Anything Non-Dog Related / It's really happening-NDR
« on: June 26, 2008, 09:41:06 pm »
Well, I've been putting off going back to school because I really didn't know what I wanted to get into more student loan debt over!!!  But I kept thinking about nursing school, so I finally bit the bullet and applied (I'm not getting any younger and the debt isn't going away!!).  Well, I got my acceptance letter last Fri!  I wasn't really stressed about whether I would get in or not, I was actually not really expecting to I mean I haven't been in school (except for one class) in nine years!!  It's all a bit surreal and a little overwhelming thinking about what's coming up!!

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Teething????? or chewer???
« on: March 05, 2008, 11:09:54 am »
OK so Issy turned one in Jan.  For the most part I haven't had any trouble with her chewing stuff.  She carries around her "babies" all the time but hasn't realized, as yet, that she could shred them if she wanted too!!  Anyway, I woke up the other day to buttons all over my bed.  She had gotten a pair of my work pants and chewed all the buttons off of them (all buttons accounted for, none swallowed).  Yesterday I was awakened by a clicking noise.  It was Issy throwing something around in her mouth.  It was part of the zipper off of the dog bed I've had for 6yrs!!!!  She does all this while I'm sleeping, and obviously she's bored.  My question is; would she be having some kind of teeth still coming in?  It doesn't look like there's anymore to come in, or (more likely) is she going through a chewie stage?

I'm going to do the freeze a wet washcloth like Julie suggests since she likes crinckly things and maybe get some harder toys for her, that might be all she needs.  Just wanted ya'lls thoughts!!

Anything Non-Dog Related / Take a moment to click please
« on: March 04, 2008, 02:47:14 pm »
A friend of mine sent me this email.  It just takes two clicks; one on the link (I hope it works!) and one on the box!!!

Hi,
This important act takes 2 seconds; literally.

Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Breast Cancer site is having trouble getting enough people to click on their site daily to meet their quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivilege d woman. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on 'donating a mammogram' for free (pink window in the middle).

This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know.  http://www.thebreastcancersite.com/

AGAIN , PLEASE TELL 10 FRIENDS TO TELL 10    * I * 6 * Y

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Daphne is a sick girl
« on: December 31, 2007, 02:22:02 pm »
First off, Happy New Year to everyone!!  Mine obviously has started out FABULOUSLY :-\
OK, so Daphne has been vomiting since Sat, once or twice a day.  No rhyme nor reason to it, it wasn't a specific time after she ate or anything and she was fine otherwise so I just kind of watched her thinking that it may have been a bit of nerves since it stormed on and off all weekend.  Yesterday I just gave her some chicken and rice and again she seemed fine, if she did vomit she just ate it (as dogs will do) before I got home.  This morning she woke me up at 6:50 to go out, just like yesterday, so I thought maybe she was going to be sick again (that is early for her to wake me up).  By the time I got ready to go out and check on her she was at the door ready to come in.  About an hour later she was standing at the door looking pathetic so I let her out again, slipped on my shoes and followed her out.  She went poo (a little) behind the shed so I was looking to see if she had passed anything or if it was a weird color.  By the time I came back around to the front she was laying in the yard (right next to where Navarre laid when he got sick, oddly enough) and would not move.  I had to pick her up to bring her inside.  Finally got the vet (who is closed today) on the phone and she met me at the office.  So she is thinking Daphne is either septic (her gums are not evenly colored and they are very pale, kind of grey actually), has a perforation somewhere, or it may even be her heart which apparently was going crazy but that may be from nerves so she's going to monitor it.  So now it's a wait and see and of course, I have to go to work now!!!

So now that I've rambled on and on, as I have a tendency to do!!!, please keep Daphne in your thoughts today and I will let ya'll know what's happening as soon as I do!!

Thanks,
H-ton

Treatment & Preventative Meds / Axle's skin
« on: November 27, 2007, 07:36:30 pm »
Everything is going good.  Axle has started to play with me and the dogs this past week, which is hilarious, he does this bunny hop thing!!  He is chewing on himself though, which Stephanie says he does when he is stressed.  Well I thought he was finished with the chewing but now he has a big raw spot at the base of his tail and on his stomach, so I'm thinking ok maybe fleas (I have sand in an area of my backyard) but when I'm brushing him and trying to clean his spots I see nothing and I don't see any on Issy or Daphne either and I usually do especially during brushing.  Just in case I gave him a capstar, nothing changed.  My question I guess is will rescue rememdy maybe help this?  He doesn't act anxious or pace or anything like that.  He's started to let me know if he needs anything.  I'm going to go look for a faucet converter for a hand held shower head to give them all a bath (can't get my shower head off, plus it rocks!!).  I know with the horses sometimes we wash them with betadine too do you think I should try that?  Any thoughts would be awesome!!!

Akita Discussions / I Have Axle!!!!
« on: November 12, 2007, 05:19:44 am »
OK so Stephanie was looking for a kennel for Axle for the two weeks that they are going to be in Pascagoula before heading to Texas.  I offered to keep him for them instead.  He's been here since Friday and he's AWESOME!!!  When he first got here Issy wanted to play with him so bad and he was ignoring her.  Well now that he's decided we're ok he starts to play with her a little and she gets nervous!!!  He starts to play with me and she starts barking at him, like "leave my mom alone!".  I told my friends I have the Cingular bars, Axle (who's nose is the same height as the kitchen counter!) then Issy reaches about to his shoulder, and Daphne reaches about to Issy's shoulder and then Stone who throws the bars off a bit but we can't forget him!!!  While he's here I'm going to try to get a pic of them standing next to each other if I can get Daphne to stay there (she's afraid of the camera!).

Games & Jokes / Funnies for the ladies!!
« on: October 11, 2007, 03:38:44 pm »
No disrespect to the men, but these are too funny!!!

The Why's of Men

1. WHY DO MEN BECOME SMARTER DURING SEX?

(because they are plugged into a genius)

2. WHY DON'T WOMEN BLINK DURING SEX?

(they don't have enough time)

3. WHY DOES IT TAKE 1 MILLION SPERM TO FERTILIZE ONE EGG?

(they don't stop to ask directions)

4. WHY DO MEN SNORE WHEN THEY LIE ON THEIR BACKS?

(because their ba!!s fall over their butt-hole and they vapor lock)

(You're laughing, aren't you?!?!)

5. WHY WERE MEN GIVEN LARGER BRAINS THAN DOGS?

(so they won't hump women's legs at cocktails parties)

6. WHY DID GOD MAKE MEN BEFORE WOMEN?

(you need a rough draft before you make a final copy)

7. HOW MANY MEN DOES IT TAKE TO PUT A TOILET SEAT DOWN?

(don't know.....it never happened)

( C'mon guys, we laugh at your blonde jokes!)

And the personal favorite:

8. WHY DID GOD PUT MEN ON EARTH?

(because a vibrator can't mow the lawn)

Remember, if you haven't got a smile on your face and laughter in your heart...Then you are just an old sour fart!

One for the ladies

One day my housework-challenged husband decided to wash his Sweat-shirt Seconds after he stepped into the laundry room, he shouted to me, 'What setting do I use on the washing machine?'
'It depends,' I replied. 'What does it say on your shirt?'
He yelled back, ' University of Oklahoma .'

And they say blondes are dumb...

A couple is lying in bed. The man says,
'I am going to make you the happiest woman in the world.'
The woman replies, 'I'll miss you...'
-----------------------------------------------------------

'It's just too hot to wear clothes today,' Jack says as he stepped out of the shower, 'honey, what do you think the neighbors would think if I mowed the lawn like this?'
'Probably that I married you for your money,' she replied.

-----------------------------------------------

Q: What do you call an intelligent, good looking, sensitive man?
A: A rumor
-----------------------------------------------------------

Dear Lord,
I pray for Wisdom to understand my man; Love to forgive him; And Patience for his moods. Because, Lord, if I pray for Strength, I'll beat him to death.
AMEN
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -
Q: Why do little boys whine?
A: They are practicing to be men.
-----------------------------------------------

Q: What does it mean when a man is in your bed gasping for breath and calling your name?
A: You did not hold the pillow down long enough.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Q: How do you keep your husband from reading your e-mail?
A: Rename the mail folder 'Instruction Manual.'

Games & Jokes / Ladies......need a laugh?
« on: September 21, 2007, 02:20:07 am »
My friend sent this to me, I had to share!!! :D :D

One for the girls

Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my shape to keep.
Please no wrinkles, Please no bags
And please lift my butt before it sags.
Please no age spots, Please no gray
And as for my belly, Please take it away.
Please keep me healthy, Please keep me young,
And thank you Dear Lord, For all that you've done.

Five tips for a woman....
1. It is important that a man helps you around the house and has a job.
2. It is important that a man makes you laugh.
3. It is important to find a man you can count on and doesn't lie to You.
4. It is important that a man loves you and spoils you.
5. It is important that these four men don't know each other.

Foot Note:
One saggy boob said to the other saggy boob:
'If we don't get some support soon, people will think we're nuts.'

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / Talk about instinct!
« on: August 14, 2007, 06:46:06 am »
So I'm house/dog sitting for a friend of mine this past weekend who has two labs.  One is an old man, Grady, who quickly let Issy know that he wouldn't put up with her shinanigans.  The other is a 5-6 yr old girl, Dixie, who is so laid back I swear if she was a person she'd be a stoner!!

Anyway, I'm sitting on the couch and Issy and Daphne are laying on the floor at the end of the couch.  Dixie walks in from outside (doggie door) and comes across the kitchen and starts to head for the living room.  Well, Issy jumps up and makes this weird noise kind of a mix between a bark and a growl, goes over to Dixie and grabs Dixie by the muzzle.  She doesn't bite or anything just mouths her.  Then she starts to body block Dixie and walk back and forth in front of Dixie until she starts backing up into the kitchen.  I'm thinking WTF!!!  She's herding her!!!  When Dixie gets into the kitchen, Issy turns around and comes back and lays down!  Keep in mind, other than basic commands I really haven't done any work with her as of yet.  Again I say, she needs a job!!!  She likes to control everything, Daphne can't even get up and walk across the room if there's a toy on the floor, Issy jumps up and barks at Daphne and blocks her from the toy.

So, now that I finally got registered for my class (yes I am a college student again) and soccer started (I coach) I know what days/nights I can have free.  I am going to contact this group in the area and try to start her with something.  The other problem at the moment is the heat, but she is definitely going to get into something!!!  Sorry so long, it still amazes me!!

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Issy with attitude!
« on: July 23, 2007, 09:25:30 pm »
Well, today Issabeaux is getting spayed.  So I take her in this morning and behind me comes in this poodle/terrier mix of some sort!!  Anyway, they sniff Issy drops down as she wants to play but he doesn't move, just stares at her.  The next thing I know she goes off!!!  Not in a vicious, I'm going to eat for breakfast kind of way, but in a what the he!!'s your problem kind of way!!  She barks when she wants to play but nobody is responding to her request!

Well, she wouldn't quit!!  Then the other dog starts barking back!  To which his owner tells him, "you idiot she'll eat you, be quiet!"  So I respond, to him, "no, she's still a puppy so she doesn't realize she could eat you yet!  She just wants to play!"  Ahhh the joys of a 6mth old GSD!!!  Gotta love it!
