General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / My Sister Just Moved To Seattle
« on: February 02, 2007, 08:03:36 pm »
Does anyone know of any great dog parks on the south side of Seattle, the Auburn/Kent area.  My sister has frisbee crazed dog and they have a little backyard.  They are looking for somewhere for them to have some fun.
Thanks,
Krista

Great Dane Pictures / Cosmo's new bed
« on: December 17, 2006, 08:27:20 pm »
My husband and I made a new bed for Cosmo.  It is actually the frame from the loveseat he destroyed, on accident of course.  Gunnar, my husband, thought we should start a big paw company making beds for those delicate babies.  By the way, I think Cosmo has adjusted well to his new home!!

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Cosmo's Eyes
« on: October 09, 2006, 04:56:52 pm »
Cosmo went to an eye specialist today.  He confirmed that his third eyelids are rolled outward.  The poor boy will have to have surgery on both eyes in about one month. $$$$$

I thought I would post some pics of his eyes now.  Hopefully we'll have excellent post-op eye pics to post.

The last pic is one of his chin.  It is my favorite part of him!!

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Rolled Third Eye?? Anyone???
« on: October 03, 2006, 12:28:36 pm »
And the plot thickens...... ...

Seems as though Cosmo's third eyelids are rolled and that is they cause of the "Cherry Eye" appearance.  The vet recommended an opthamologist for him.  She said the third lid cannot be functioning correctly the way it is.  Not to mention it is the cause of the constant eye muck all of the time.  (Sam will be so disappointed if he can't clean Cosmo's eyes everyday over and over!)

Good news though, Cosmo is now home and safe.  He is very disoriented and unsure of what to do.  Poor Big Boy.

Tina, the vet loved the idea to claim Pink Eye when asked!!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Cosmo is having surgery today
« on: October 03, 2006, 04:13:57 am »
I wanted to let everyone know that Cosmo is having eye surgery today.  My vet and I decided to remove the Cherry Eye glands after some discussion.  He is having the surgery at 1pm.  Prayers and well wishes for my tall, dark and handsome man!!

I only took one picture.  She took a few more, but I didn't realize the time and had to fly out of my house to pick up my daughter.  So sorry Tajsa!!  We'd love to have you back anytime!  (Imagine two BPOers together and they lose track of time)

Helpful Groups & Dogs in Need / Two Saints looking for new homes!!
« on: August 07, 2006, 04:06:32 pm »
I got this today and thought I would just put it out there........
Dogs need new home!!
I have a friend that has a couple of dogs that need a
good home. If you have a place for them or know of
someone who does that would be great.
Harley is a purebred St. Bernard. He weighs 160 lbs.
He is not fixed but doesn't seem to have the urge to
mate. The owner will pay for him to be fixed if that's
what they want.
Freedom is a St Bernard/Sheppard Mix. She weighs about
100 lbs and is not fixed.
They have lived together for two years and have never
tried to mate. Both dogs are housebroken and live
currently as inside dogs.
The owner will drive where ever needed to drop them
off. If you would like to schedule a time to see
either one of them please let me know and I will make
the arrangements.
Let me know if you have any questions. I have been
around both dogs and they are great dogs and very well
behaved and good tempers.
In the picture I provided, Harley is the one on the
left and Freedom is on the right. The dog in the
middle has a great home and isn't going anywhere!!

Please let me know if you have interest or know of anyone who might.  The dogs are in Nebraska, but I am willing to help transport them.

Thanks,
Krista

Medical Conditions & Diseases / Cherry eye??
« on: August 01, 2006, 04:39:56 am »
I just got off the phone with the vet to get Cosmo a heartworm test and check up.  YIKES!!  I explained the appearance of one of his eyes and she said it sounded like Cherry Eye.  Nicole mentioned it when I picked him up, but I had no idea he would need surgery for it.  INEXPERIENCED!!

I went through old threads on it and PM Willow's mom since she said she was going in for it.

Anyone know any more about it???  Cosmo goes in at 1:30 and they said prepare for him to stay.  I trust my vet, but don't like the idea of him going in for surgery so soon and without a little research.

Behavior, Housebreaking, Obedience / What to do after a severe bite??
« on: July 31, 2006, 03:24:35 am »
My good friend, Kari, has a 2 year old Chocolate Lab that severely bit her sister-in-law.  The bite was unprovoked and Snickers, the Lab, knows the s-i-l.  Kari felt like she just didn't want to be hugged.  Snickers didn't growl or give any of the usual signs to say leave me alone.  She bit and then rebit.

Kari has 4 kids at home ranging from 1 to 9 years old.  She is a pediatrician and has seen the results of dog bites to children and she feels like she can't keep the dog because of the risk of her biting anyone!!  However, Kari is devastated and would like opinions, options.  Please let me know what you think.

Great Dane Pictures / Pics of Cosmo Coming Home
« on: July 30, 2006, 04:39:01 am »
Cosmo and I finally made it home last night with our friend Sue.  The dogs have already calmed down quite a bit, but Sam and Cosmo are licking each other in all the wrong places!!!
Our trip was a lot longer than we thought.  Our flight was cancelled so we got a rental and drove 1000 miles in two days!!  YIKES.
Kristi was so awesome for us on our trip.  She was so incredibly helpful to us!!  She tried her best to help us get to Indiana, get a homemade meal and find us a place to sleep.  Sue is still singing her praises!!
Here are some pics from when Nicole, Molly and Mark met us at the hotel:

1. Cosmo giving Nicole some sugar
2. Molly getting squished
3. Poor Cosmo getting soooo much love
4. My new boyfriend

Anything Non-Dog Related / Mac users?
« on: July 20, 2006, 12:59:48 pm »
It seems as though I cannot get my pics up with this stinking Mac.  I was trying to get Cosmo's soon-to-be siblings up and it keeps getting blocked.  Anyone experience this??
