General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / FREE puppies...watch out!
« on: September 04, 2006, 06:12:12 pm »
I just heard from a woman in our neighborhood about a man going around getting 'free' puppies and kittens and feeding them to his snake!  She called about some kittens that were advertised and the lady who had given away 2 of her 'free' kittens found out that the man she gave them to fed those kittens to his snake.  I was horrified.  She called the police, but they won't do anything or take this serious, saying she cannot prove he even got the kittens from her since she didn't give him a receipt or get a receipt from him.  Is this disgusting and crazy!?!  They have had complaints from this man's neighbors about puppies and kittens coming up missing and have done nothing to this man - unless they are secretly trying to catch him.  Or maybe unwanted free puppies and kittens aren't high on the priority list.
What else can she do?  She sees me walking my dogs and told me about it, and everytime she sees me go by her house she comes out and is in tears.

Anything Non-Dog Related / May I rejoin? I've missed you all!
« on: August 17, 2006, 05:13:53 am »
I've been gone from BP for some time, but am asking everyone if I may rejoin the group.  Is it ok?  I have missed reading the posts and antics of all the much-loved furbabies living w/you.
I was Petra's mommy, and she has since crossed the Bridge and I have her ashes sitting beside my precious Lady and Katie (my danes who crossed before her.)  Although I really tried w/Petra and had some unfortunate incidents occur while she was w/me, I still miss her.
I have 2 dogs now, Greta, a mountain cur/greyhound mix and a small dog, Wags and he is a min. pin./terrior mix.  I adopted them from the local shelter.  I had intended to get Wags alone, but they told me about Greta going to be euthanized.  She had been at the shelter a very long time, they had no space for incoming pets, and she'd been found abandoned in a back yard w/one live and one dead puppy.  She had very saggy teats and no one wanted a dog who looked like her.
Welllll, I wasn't going to let them euthanize a perfectly sweet dog because of a defect she and I share (I could relate) so she also came home w/me.  Yesss...I am a sucker for the "underdog."
I am also fostering a Great Dane/Yellow Lab mix.  Her name is Roxy.  She too was scheduled for euthanization (the shelter is NOT a no-kill shelter) and the shelter manager asked me if I would be interested in keeping her alive.
She had been at the shelter for longer than the limit of 2 months, had been adopted 2 times (another requirement for euthanasia - 2 strikes and your out) and brought back each time.  The previous adoptees had kept her in a crate all day while they worked and only let her out to relieve herself.  The other family had a small child that Roxy got too playful w/and they complained that she was viscious!
She is just very high energy and had never been on a leash.  Since she has gotten daily walks, good, healthy food (she was very thin) and training in basic obedience, she is just the most wonderful pet.  She is just a big loveable lug.
After Petra, having so many loving and wonderful dogs surrounding me, I am again enjoying myself w/my babies.  They are all wonderful and respond to my leadership very well.
