Saint Bernard Pictures / Swim with me?
« on: May 08, 2007, 08:18:03 am »
"Come on - anybody?  PLEASE!"  It was between 95 and 100 degrees here today.  Shaggy has figured out that it is pretty cool on our baja step.  It is about 2ft under water.  He hasn't ventured off the step yet but....It is only a matter of time.  Cindy-The Brindle Pack, I am only about 1 hour or so south of you in Murrieta.

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / What a story!
« on: April 29, 2007, 07:41:24 am »
I just read about this dog named Faith.  She was born with no front legs and "walks" like a human on her hind legs.  The story was in my new Guideposts magazine.  Her website is www.faiththedo g.net  Talk about amazing!  Just had to share her heartwrenching yet heartwarming story!

Food Discussion & Information / Adding raw question
« on: April 27, 2007, 10:42:13 am »
Okay, like many this recall thing has me freaked out.  We feed kibble only in the morning but add 1/3 can to each bowl (3 dogs) for their evening meal.  We have been feeding Chicken Soup Adult but now that their puppy and kitten canned have been recalled I am thinking of just adding some raw meat and veggies to their evening kibble. (And changing kibble.)  The question is what to add, how much and should I grind it.  I have never fed my dogs anything raw before and don't want any problems with bones splintering and getting lodged somewhere.  Thanks!

Food Discussion & Information / Food allergy question
« on: April 26, 2007, 04:27:51 am »
This is actually for my mom.  She has a keeshond that has food allergies.  She was on the Natural Balance Venison and Rice that was recalled.  She did great on that and she is also on Nzymes, which has helped tremendously.  Because of the recall, my mom put her back on the NB Duck and Sweet Potato.  She is back to itching and licking miserably.  Does anyone know of any other good allergy formula to try?
Thanks!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / socialization ? and pics
« on: March 10, 2007, 12:38:47 am »
I thought we had done a pretty good job of socializing Shaggy.  We have 5 children.  Their friends and the neighborhood kids are in and out all of the time, we take trips to Petsmart and he is in obedience training.

Today, when I picked up my son from preschool, the teacher asked me to bring Shaggy in.  He was fine until the kids came up to him.  He wanted out of there PRONTO and took off for the exit.  There was a woman there that had had a saint as a child and he wanted nothing to do with her either! He is only 13 months old.  Could it have something to do with his age?  How can I get him over this?  Please Help!

The pics are of Shaggy and our 14 month old Sheperd mix Max.

Mixed Breed Pictures / My new grandpuppy (kinda long)
« on: March 06, 2007, 10:57:04 am »
I don't post much but lurk daily.  I just had to share this with people who would understand!

My daughter and son-in-law adopted a 10 week old Lab/golden mix from a kill shelter in Shreveport.  (They are away in LA at school.)  The day after they brought her home, she was sick.  Diarreah and a cough.  They took her to a local vet and he diagnosed stress tummy troubles from the change in environment and food.  He also charged them a fortune.  24 hours later, Molly was worse.  Lethargic and now vomiting to go along with everything else.  They took her to another vet (recommended by my dd co-workers) and Molly was diagnosed with Parvo.  They didn't give her much hope.  They started her on IV fluids and meds.  By the next afternoon, she was wagging her tail and barking a little.  After 3 days in the hospital she is home (with a bunch of meds) and being a typical puppy.  All that and this vet only charged them $160.00. We were shocked! There are still some kind people in this world.  The vet was pleasantly surprised at her recovery.

We are all so relieved after this rollercoaster.  I told my kids that they may need to remember this experience when Molly is being a terror - aka typical puppy.

Saint Bernard General Discussions / New Here!
« on: November 13, 2006, 12:28:29 am »
Hello all!  Happy to have found you.  My name is Rebecca and I have a 9 month old St. Bernard named Shaggy as well as a 10 month old Shep/Saint mix (mostly shepard) and an 11 year old Golden/Shepard mix.  We've had large breeds for a long time but Shaggy is our first giant.  We love him to pieces and he is spoiled rotten.

We are currently feeding them all Canidae and Shaggy is taking vitamin C.  Are there any more supplements he should be taking?  Since he is our first giant, any experienced help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
