We were doing great. I finally got the house I wanted and was settling in cleaning out the house we moved into and left to go to my aunts for about 10 minutes and my boyfriend left River tied outside. River being the puppy he was got into the garbage and got ahold of some bad yogurt and some old cottage cheese. I had no idea he had even gotten into the garbage. I came home and he was playing with Macey and he went and laid down and came back out of the wash room tremoring. So I took him outside not knowing what was room within 10 minutes River was having seizures and convulsing so I rushed him to the emergency vet were I spent all night and then rushed him to my vet the next day and things started looking up and they said he could go home he had not had a seizure in over 12 hours. So I took him home River made it the whole night and was having light tremors I laid with him on the floor the whole night holding him and talking to him and then the next morning he died at 10am of a severe massive seizure we could not even get him to the vet to have him euthanized. We called the police as well as animal control to see if they could help because he was being held down by my boyfriend and his friend because he went out of his mind and was flailing around and we were afraid he would get hurt more and the police and animal control came over and stood there and watched and said they could not do anything except for try to help us load him in our car..  I never felt so horrible in my whole life having to watch my best friend die knowing I couldnt do anything. When I moved away from home he was 10 weeks old he was the only friend I had besides my boyfriend and Cujo for the last 7 months. It has been horrible without him and everyday is a struggle not to have my baby with me. He was born Oct 10th and died one day short of being 9months old on July 9th. He is gone, but he will never be forgotten.

« on: November 11, 2007, 10:18:57 pm »
Cujo is now a year and 4 months and Sierra is a year and 7 months. Cujo is starting to fill out and hes learning to lay on well my bed and his new big boy bed we had to do something to convince him to stop laying on the kitchen floor due to his hygroma. Its getting alot smaller now.
Sierra is the fat short and stubby one. She is really scared to have her picture taken so its a task to get one I have to shut off my phone sound so she doesnt run. The one picture is of Cujo laying on my back wow Ill tell you he is heavy.. :o

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Does anyones Large Breed have this?
« on: October 04, 2007, 04:39:03 am »
Cujo went to the vet last week he turned a year old at the end of July he weighs 130pds and is 36 inches tall. We thought he was on the thin side and the vet said no he was actually very healthy and he should get a little taller and probably will gain another 10pds.We took him to the vet because he had what appeared to be a water filled tumor looking thing on his elbow ended up finding out this is another form of calius* not sure how thats spelled. He said unless it causes him pain he wont lance it or drain it due to being on his elbow which most of the time will not heal. Does anyone else that has large breed dogs have this?Im very greatful it was not anything serious because I love this dog so much Im just wondering how common this is?

Saint Bernard General Discussions / Cujo and aggression?
« on: February 23, 2007, 12:29:43 am »

Cujo is 7 months now soon to be 8 months and so far he has not really shown much aggression. He has been through training classes and socialized at dog play dates and has met tons of other dogs at petsmart and petco and carshows for adoptathons. Lately I have noticed his aggression towards men and my small Jack Russell and tonight one of my family friends who is at my house almost everyday. The men aggression I could understand is more likely because there are no men normally ever around him just women my mom, myself and my friends who are usually girls sometimes guys, but there kind of scared of a 90 something pound puppy jumping up on there shoulders and nipping at there face. Which I dont understand he has never done this before just recently. He does not listen to anyone anymore at all besides me he acts like he cannot hear them, but when I tell him to do something he listens well. He will drag my mom if she tries to walk him, but not me.
Our Jack Russell loves to play and they get along just fine most of the time, but she always wants to play and barks at me and he rushes over and shoves himself between her and I and if she gets to close he'll grab her legs and bite her. With my closest friend who is always over I yelled at her for getting the dogs riled up tonight in the house and he grabbed her by the back of her pony tail and bit her head!Thank goddness he didnt make her bleed or hurt her, but it was enough to scare her and scare me too.
I dont think this is appropriate behavior for such a large dog, but this is the second male dog I have had ever in my life and the other dog also became possesive over me and went after everyone I knew. Is there something I could be doing wrong to provoke this behavior? I love this dog as much as I loved the other dog who also had aggressive issues. He does not get rewarded for his bad behavior and I do scold him and tell him to lay down or go in his crate when he is bad, but Im starting to think that he may need a little more then a yell and a crate time out because that does not seem to be working anymore. My other dogs which are both female do not act this way at all and listen quite well. If anyone can possibly help me I would appreciate it..

Saint Bernard Pictures / Cujo now .. at 7 months
« on: February 21, 2007, 11:32:49 pm »

Here is Cujo when he was a pup and now at 7 months.. I did not know he was going to get sooo tall. He still hasnt filled out weightwise, but Im hoping his tall  gangly body eventually catches up in weight and to his droopy lips and big ole head..
