General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / away from home
« on: October 23, 2005, 06:07:33 am »
I am currently away from home( out of the country) and I am missing my dogs like CRAZY.  I left home on the 8th and I am returning this thursday the 27th.  I have never been away from them for this long and it is very hard.  I have been calling home just about every 2nd day checking up on them.  Two dogs( Chach and Tekke) and my cat( Alvin) are with my younger sister and my 3rd dog( Ace) is with my Fiances parents, oh how I miss them.

Just wanted to share my heart ache with all of you that understand the unhappiness of being away from our fur babies.

I just wanted to share with all of you that we had to have one of our house/ barn cats put to sleep yesterday, we had him for 14 years.  My fiance buried him in one of our beautiful flower beds on the farm.  We all miss him dearly :(  Goodbye Tiger

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / A very disturbing comment
« on: September 04, 2005, 03:48:01 pm »
My Aunt was visiting on the weekned and and she was talking to my sister about my dogs and she asked her why I have "killer dogs".  That made me soooo angry.  For those of you who don't know me and my dogs I have 3, one dobie, one Dobie/lab and a valleybull/ boston terrier.  It is people like her that give dogs a bad name for NO reason.  I wish I had of been there to defend my family, I am so angry about it.

Here is a prime example:  My Aunt used to have a golden retriever and I have 2 nieces and 2 nephews and HER golden once bite my niece and guess what NONE of my dogs have EVER bit any children NONE never even thought about it, so who has the bad dog me or her?( her dog was not bad I am just proving a point)  I am not saying that goldens are bad cause they aren't and neither are MY dogs.  It just makes me angry, as you can tell.

I just had to express my feelings to those of you that feel my pain.  My dogs are not"killers" they are "lovers".  It really hurts to hear that about them.
One more thing.....  My aunt commented that my Valleybull/ boston terrier was a pitbull and I said actually he isn't and she said "well his head is shaped like one so as far as I am concerned he is one", I fought with her long and hard over that one.

Doberman Discussions / Ace+Tekke=friends..... finally
« on: August 20, 2005, 07:04:51 am »
Just wanted to let you all know that Ace has finally accepted Tekke into the family.  For the first little while Ace wanted to have Tekke as a snack but now he uses him as a play toy which is a good thing.  I am soooo happy :)

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / After the neuter
« on: August 20, 2005, 06:18:13 am »
Little tekke is feeling great today, so great that he wants to play with Sasha.  Should I just let him play or should I try to keep him quiet, he is not in any pain.

My little tekke got neutered today, hurray :)  He is home now feeling a little tired.  The vet discovered that he has the beginning stages of a skin infection so I have him on antibiotics for the next 2 weeks.

Just a note hear for any boxer owners or boxer cross owners... There is an anesthetic called Acepromazine that is commonly used by vets but it is very dangerous to boxers heres an article on it http://www.cinemaboxers.com/acepromazine.htm  I printed the sheet and took it with me today and I am glad I did because I don't think he knew that it was bad for boxers and it is the anesthetic that they use so I had him use a different one.

Ace was the center of attention last night, heres the story.  Last night we had some friends over and Ace was showing everyone his toys trying to get someone, anyone to play with him but when that didn't work this is what he did( he has done it before as well).  I have a cat bed and  another small bed for my puppy anyway when Ace can't get atention with his toys  he trots around the house with the bed so that is his way getting me to chase him because if I don't take it from him he will eventually chew on it.  By the time the night was over there was a HUGE pile of stuff on top of the fridge that I had to take away from him.. the items were:  My sisters sandals, both puppy bed and cat bed, a blanket and a pillow.  It is so funny and aggravating when he does it, I don't know wether to get mad >:( or laugh :D.  He is such a character.

Does anyone elses Dobies do any funny things to get attention?

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Champ is fine.. THANK GOD
« on: June 21, 2005, 03:13:22 pm »
All our prayers have been answered, Champie is going to be fine.  We still do not know what he ate,we think it may have been something he ate in the compost pile, he is notorious for eating everything and anything.  I don't think he would have made it if we didn't get him to the vet when we did.  He was quite tired today and he stayed in most of the day to rest.

Thanks to all who said prayers for my Champie, it also made me feel better.  That was sooo scary I can't even put it into words, I just thank god that he is OK and that Ace didn't lose his bestest friend.  Thanks again to everyone, you guys are great ;D

Medical Conditions & Diseases / He's been poisoned.
« on: June 20, 2005, 05:55:43 pm »
Champie, my farm dog( at work) has been poisoned.  I don't know if he is going to make it.  We don't know what poisoned him.  I am hysterical, I can't believe it.  He is home and he is tranquilized.  He can't be treated for the poison because we have no idea what he ate.  his symptoms were:  Blincking eyes, tilted head, trembling in the hind end and each ear held in a different position then the other.  Does anyone recognize any of these signs?  Please help me. :'(

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Need some advice
« on: June 20, 2005, 03:07:48 pm »
Ok here is the situation:  We have a farm dog at work his name is Champ.  He has some arthritis so he has been on Rimadyl for the past month( not everyday tough).  He has been behaving totally himself until this afternoon.  He came with the horse and carriage with me and he followed along side like he always does but an hour after we returned to the barn he was behaving VERY oddly.  He is kind of walking like he is a little bit bow legged in the back and he is flutterring his eyes ALOT and he is carrying his ears in different positions from each other, one ear back and one kind of forward but not upright and his back end is also slightly trembling.  I felt him all over and he didn't seem like he was in pain anywhere.  I am at a loss at what is wrong with him and I am worried sick, he is a wonderful dog.  Does anyone have any idea what may be wrong???  We are not sure of his age, I think he is 7 or 8 yrs.old.

I hope someone can shed some light on this for me....please. :'(
