Pit Bull Discussions & Pictures / Home needed for Pitbull
« on: January 19, 2008, 09:00:50 pm »
Need advice on how to safely place my brothers pitbull.

My brothers body was found 01/10/2008, he had been in a snowmobile accident in front of his home and stumbled into his garage and collapsed. He was 41. His pitbull was upstairs in his crate. The neighbors found my brother three days later :( I have his dog. He is the sweetest thing! He is not neutered so I am having that done. He was very thin from being in his crate with no food or water but he is eating now and gaining weight.
He is good with my kids, he seems fine with other dogs (non agressive). He touched noses with my cat and the cat ran away and he didnt react. He can sit, speak, lay down, is learning to heal. He is crate trained so doesnt have accidents.
He is a beautiful dark brindle.....
I ahve two dogs, one of which is a 4 mo old femal Border Collie which is why I cant give him run of the house with my two dogs yet.
Where can I post or get the word out? I dont want fighters or weirdos getting my brothers dog. He was everything to him.
Hes only 1 year old :(

Food Discussion & Information / Raw Hides
« on: December 02, 2007, 05:58:38 am »
OK so all my life my dogs have had raw hides. I do not buy the ones with knuckles and when they get to a small size I throw them away.

I was told by someone that they are totally against feeding rawhides to their dogs and its the new wrong thing to do.

What do you all do? They seem to be saving my furniture right now! :)

Border Collie Discussions & Pictures / Ears - How long?
« on: November 29, 2007, 03:21:25 pm »
How long does it take before a BC ears have sustained the shape they will be at adulthood? Our little girl is around 12+ weeks and at one point the right ear looked like it would be up, now its down, the left iear is now slanting to the side. While I know its puppy stage and sort of find it endearing my husband says she looks weird ;)

I cannot remember how long it takes to see the real ears done?

Border Collie Discussions & Pictures / BC Puppy, Question about No Bite
« on: November 26, 2007, 03:56:08 pm »
Lucy is doing very well. She is almost 12 weeks now. She is really smart and learns things very quickly.

I am wondering your version of the no bite command.

I was taught way back 12 years ago when we got our old dog that if he put his teeth on you you immediately grab the nose and close it and say "no bite" sternly. This worked great with him. He is a Dane/Lab cross and to this day has never growled at us.

Now Lucy on the other hand has decided she is faster then the kids and will continue to play bite when they tell her no. Part of this is establishing the alpha, they just dont have it with her yet.

Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a better way with BC to get their attention and help them focus on the positive part of play?

We redirect with a toy which helps, sometimes she just gets into one of her bursts of running play and jumps up and nips. Its just play but if she were full grown this could cause a slight problem and we want to nip this in the bud so to speak :)

Introduce Yourself to the Forum / New Border Collie
« on: November 26, 2007, 04:59:11 am »

This is Lucy, she was born Sept 4th. She is our newest addition. I have always wanted a Border but waited because our children were young. Now that they are 13, 11 and 8 they are old enough to help us work with this active dog and help train her.

We also have an aged gentleman dog. He is a Dane/Lab cross. Best dog, is loving Lucy and gets along with her great. He is 12 and his name is Buddy.

Here they are their first few days together.
