Kuvasz Discussions / Re: BIRTHDAY
« on: August 05, 2006, 07:55:53 am »
One of your little girls lives about 2-3 miles from me with Lisa Beam.  I called, having rec'd her number from the feed store, and invited her to come by and see a full grown kuvasz in person.  If you want to email me privately, I can give you some information on this person.
I still haven't seen the male that went to live with Greg & Carol Hill.  They haven't made it down this way, and I haven't been up their way.  They live about 4 hours from me.  I talk to them every now and then and they are happy with him.

She said "there's no way the dog could be 25 lbs at 11 weeks old". Honey, my dog Nigel weighed more than that at 11 weeks!!!

Obviously someone not familiar with large dogs (and probably very impressed with herself).  One of my 26 day old kuvasz pups already weighs in at 6# 4oz!

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Re: Pedigree Programs
« on: August 28, 2005, 10:05:18 pm »
Yes, it's on the pedigree.  But I have 300+ pedigrees on my computer, so I can trace some of my dogs back to the 1930's.  I also keep track of all their health issues, vet visits, etc.  OFA #s, who has what dogs, etc.  It's a lot of information, but genealogy (human and canine) is kind of a hobby of mine.

It's a software program that keeps track of pedigrees.  You can also get programs where you can keep all your records, such as show records, notes on judges, health (vaccinations, illnesses, etc.), along with pedigrees and breeding information.  Some even have contracts in them (sales, stud, etc.).

General Board for Big Dogs with Big Paws / Pedigree Programs
« on: August 28, 2005, 09:21:33 pm »
My pedigree program died.  It was an old one and the company is no longer in business (as far as I know).  The program was DogBytes.
Since I have to replace it, I was wondering what, if any, programs everyone is using.  What are your likes and dislikes of the program you're using, etc.
Thanks.

The Marrema closely resembles the kuvasz.  The are more refined than the GP, and are less domesticated than the GP, also.

Let me know what you think when you see him.

Got an email from Carol.  Their feet still haven't touched the ground yet.  They'll be bringing him here in about a month for me to see.

I can hardly wait to see the little guy that's coming to California!  I know Carol and Greg are anxious for Saturday to come.

Hi Lori.  Where are you located?
Hmmm... a kuvasz that keeps you on your toes?  Unbelievable <g>!  After all the kuvaszok I've had over the years, their sense of humor never ceases to amaze me.  It takes a special person to share their life with a kuvasz.  And of course, they also must be smarter than their kuvasz.
We live in a pack with our dogs.  Although we have two kennels for incorporating rescues, etc., the dogs run free.  We have a dog door, so they have in-out access.  Needless to say, we don't worry about burglars.  This is a typical evening at our house.

I would LOVE to see some pictures.
Our little Bug is doing well.  She took the loss of the litter really hard.  She walked around with a stuffed animal in her mouth, crying and howling.  So, we went out and got her a foster child.  That helped her get over the loss.  It was rough for us to lose the litter, but the important thing was that we kept her healthy, since we caught it in time.
You mentioned you got Aiden from a Canadian breeder.  Would that be the Schmidts or Darla?  Who did you get Beauty from?

I just found this site, so here's my intro:
My name is Michele and I live in northern CA.  My family currently consists of five kuvaszok: Dani, Bogie, Zeus, Bug and Shiloh.  We would have had more this week, but Bug lost her litter due to a detached placenta on May 1.  So, you can understand if I'm jealous of your large litter.
I have had kuvasz since 1990 and have been involved in kuvasz rescue since 1991.  I have fostered over 30 kuvaszok (luckily, not all at once.)  I have been involved in showing my kuvasz and currently have one as a registered therapy dog.
